Harvey Cedars Shellfish vs The Clam Shack

Heading down to LBI at the end of the month and we're staying in Beach Haven. Is it worth driving to Harvey Cedar's or is the Clam Shack just as good?

I am not sure if you are clear on location! Harvey Cedar Clam Bar is in Beach Haven. I can heartily recommend it with the caveat that it is an old fashioned clam bar--sit around on stools around the raw bar. It was recently sold, but my understanding is that the new owners did not change anything so hopefully the quality will remain the same. The proprietess, Nell is a local institution and she shucks the raw shell fish and runs a tight ship-NO CELL PHONES! There are also fried clam strips, chowder, mussels that many rave about, and very few non sea food choices (hot dogs). It is not very large, if there is a wait, just sign in at the white board just inside the door. It is BYOB. Enjoy!

great. I saw there was a Harvey cedars shellfish in Harvey cedars and also the clam bar in Beach Haven. I'm definitely happy to hear we won't have to drive to the other end of the island. Thanks

I haven't been in the one in Harvey Cedars, but I looked at the menu online at it is definitely a wider menu that the Clam Bar. As i said above the decor and atmosphere at the Clam Bar are rustic! See how traffic is when you down and maybe try both! For other Seafood in Beach Haven, the Pearl St market has a very fresh seafood selection (their raw platter if my favorite to take home for cocktail hour). You can also get steamed lobster for a meal at home. This was sold last year, but has reopened after renovations and I hope the new owner keeps up the standards of the old! The Pearl St market is on S Bay Ave and Pearl ST, great market and prepared foods ordered at the counter, to take home or eat outside. Popular coffee/light breakfast in the south Beach Haven area.

Drive up-island to Harvey Cedars Shellfish Co. It is worth it. Why would so many of we locals do the same? I know folks from the mainland who will drive their boat from Lanoka Harbor or Waretown to beat the traffic to savor the excellent offerings at this long-established and top-reviewed casual seafood restraurant. Vs. their smaller Clam Shack, there is a greater variety, i.e., there are appetizers and entree selections, and daily specials offered at the north end location that are excellent and not offered at the more take-out oriented place the Garofalo brothers operate at the south end in Beach Haven. Be prepared by going online and checking out the menus of both places which can be found on their site.
