Me and my best friend just got back from a one week's stay at this terrific hotel and we'll already decided to get back last two weeks of September. It's a very quiet, small hotel, where you don't feel like you're a number, service is very professional but still personal. When we arrived, check in went very quickly. Normally our room was available at 13h, but we got it earlier, so nice to take a shower and get to the swimming pool asap :-)
Rooms are basic but quite large. Have to say that cleaning staff sometimes weren't as efficient as in other hotels, but in general rooms were tidy, most important: bathroom and beds were impeccable, and those are the main things for us. Our room (1560) had a great view on a little harbour and lateral seaview and mountain view, what a terrific way to start a day..
Food was good, choice wasn't that big, especially not in the afternoon, but in general there was always something I liked, and I never left restaurant feeling hungry. Pasta sauces are great!! There are also possibilities for vegetarians, nice desserts etc.. I've already visited hotels where food was better or with a larger choice, but in general food was good, nothing more, nothing less.
There are two swimming pools, one "relax" pool with the river bar, it's near the main restaurant. We never stayed there, but it was beautiful over there. River bar closes for all in guests at 18h, from that moment on, you have to pay like the HB guests. In that area there's also the a la carte restaurant for the HB guests. The other pool is the activity pool, where you also have the pool bar that's open for all in guests till 23h. In that area evening entertainment also takes place. We always were at the acitvity pool, nice music, not too crowded, just perfect for us, actually. Hotel was almost full, but we never had that impression, because everything's so casual here.
The entertainment staff is definitely one of the main assets of this hotel. Chris, Tina, Teresa, Vicky and Mario love their job and you can see that. Shows weren't really professional, but they're doing everything with such great enthusiasm that you can only relax, smiling and having fun. The only downside for us, was that there were lots of ppl that didn't appreciate them. They asked us some times to participate in karaoke or games and it's really not our thing to be on a stage with everybody watching you, but at least we had the courtesy to applaud and enjoy the shows. Lots of times we were like the only one applauding or making some noise and that really bothered us. They're doing their best and I think they deserve more than how they're treated sometimes.
In the surroundings there are some nice bars. After two days we discovered a nice bar, called booca, at the beach, every evening before dinner we got our cocktail there, very nice ppl, got a couple of times koum quat or ouzo on the house, very nice atmosphere, you don't have things like that in belgium. We also went twice to Oasis bar near the hotel, and almost every evening we went to the golden beach club. Very nice cocktailbar, lots of times there are ppl on the dancefloor and though it isn't a real discotheque, it's nice.
The isle is also magnificent... It was my third time in Corfu and I still like it so much. The atmosphere, the beautiful nature, the locals, corfu town with the nice bars, cosy streets, shops,.. I just got back and I'm already thinking "yes in 2.5 months I'll be back in paradise :-)
In brief: Corfu rocks and Apollo Palace too: if you like a nice atmosphere, personal service, good food, and a quiet hotel with good entertainment, you should go there.
If some of you have any questions about it, you can always send me a message..
