Having skiied before in Meran2000 we were looking for a place close to the slopes. The Hotel Salten proofed to be the perfect place to stay. This family run (family with 3 daughters) small hotel approx 25 rooms offers so much for a 3star superior place. a) the Hotel is immaculate, clean and extremly well looked after. All finishing, furniture, crockery, glasses, cutlery, towels, bath robes etc are of highest quality and standard. This concept can be seen in all aspects. b) the lady owner runs the service like clockwork and nothing was too much trouble to ask for. Children can ask for any food to be cooked for them for dinner, so it is not just the sausage and chips option c) her husband runs the kitchen and produced in the 10 days we stayed nothing else but delicious and imaginative food without repetition. Any deviation from the 5 course nightly dinner will be very happily considered. He also provided an afternoon buffet with freshly baked 'Apfelstrudel', soups and salads. d) the Italian wine list is impressive and appropriately priced and so are the drinks from the bar. e) The excellent food requires some balance which can be found in the small yet perfectly equipped gym, the new swimming pool and the fantastic spa area. A real treat is a massage with the local masseur girl.
The slopes are either a 5 minute drive away from the hotel where one can park as a hotel guest free of charge from Mon-Friday. Otherwise there is a skibus literally 50 meteres away from the hotel. The hotel has a ski and boot room therefore it is nice to put warm ski boots on on the morning.
The atmosphere in the hotel is very relaxed and the majority of the guests I talked to have been coming back regularly. The clientel is a mix of families, retired couples and groups of friends. You will find mainly Germans, Swiss and Italians in the hotel.
This very good value for money hotel will suit people who are not looking for the ski resort pizzazz and party. This is for people who enjoy a 1st class hotel with top attention to detail in a relaxed atmosphere. There are no shops and bars. After skiing it is relax, sauna and dinner. Then in the next morning you hopefully will wake up to sunshine and great views while getting hungry for the superb breakfast.
