We were looking for a cosy country inn with good food to spend a Sunday night at on our travels and found the Crown Inn after a huge amount of browsing the web and trip adviser. It was well worth it.
We walked in during their busy Sunday lunch service and from then on the service was amazing. We were quickly shown to our room - what a lovely cosy room - we had the fox and pheasant room. Comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with champagne glasses on the side, tea and coffee making items with fresh milk in a flask, lovely touch. We sat down on the chaise longue had a nice cup of tea and chilled out for a couple of hours - we both lead busy lives and this was just what we needed......
Dinner time arrived and as we wandered down to the busy bar area we were spotted immediately we were welcomed and asked to sit down at one of the bar tables and got the wine list to peruse whilst waiting for our table which was ready in just a few minutes.
The food was amazing - my husband is still talking about his venison main course over a week later and I just wish they were closer to us so I can eat there more often so I can go through the whole menu! The service from all the staff was fantastic, they were polite and unobtrusive and nothing was too much trouble. We had a delicious bottle of wine from the reasonably priced list. As we ordered dessert we asked if we could take some cheese up with us to nibble on later as we had had an earlyish meal - no problem and as we went to take it up the next thing I know one of the waiting staff is on the way up the stairs with our cheese and a bottle of water.
We had a lovely nights sleep in the extremely comfortable bed and went down for breakfast at around 9 the next day to a lovely welcome again from the staff - there were two extremely charming staff members there very chatty and happy. Breakfast was delicious with creamy scrambled eggs freshly squeezed orange juice and all the other usual accompaniments.
I am now just looking for an excuse to head over towards Harrogate again so that we can stay there again.
The cost - extremely reasonable. We paid less for the meal than we would in a comparable (or even not so comparable) restaurant in this area and the bed and brekfast was a standard rate for that kind of establishment. My total bill was less than £170 and the wine was over £20 !
