We stayed at Le Prieure for 2 nights in order to break up our car journey from the UK to Switzerland. I found this B&B on the internet and reserved via telephone. The owner is a lovely lady who speaks a bit of English and I had no trouble reserving our room. She was very accommodating when I had to change our dates and knowing that we were traveling with 2 small children suggested that we stay in the small apartment (The Pigeon House) to have a bit more room (only 5€ more per night).
We were very satisfied with our accommodation. It was clean and all the appliances worked. Quite a bit of the furniture looks like it was picked up at flea markets and there are an awful lot of trinkets but this made it feel very cozy and added to rather than detracted from it's character. My only complaint for the apartment was that the stairs were a bit tricky - there was a rather dangerous half step leading to the 1st double bedroom and another step in the top bedroom which was far to high. I would not recommend this particular room for anyone with toddlers or who had trouble walking.
The owner showed me around the other rooms and all looked very clean and quite spacious.
This is a small family run farm with a herd of Charolais cattle. As is normal on any farm there was quite a bit of equipment laying around so those with small children should remain vigilant. (The cattle do not remain on the farm in the summer.)
Le Prieure is very old and was used by the nearby church for nearly 600 years so don't expect anything too pristine. That said, there is an awful lot of junk laying around the place (old tv, fridge, etc) which is a shame because the setting is so beautiful.
Foucheres is quite a small town but there is a bread shop within walking distance and a small market about 5 minutes away. The town sits on the river Seine and is surrounded by lush countryside. The medieval town of Troyes is a short distance away.
