Just returned from a seven night stay at Pompano Beach Club. I can't say enough about the resort and it's incredible staff. The location of the resort is on the west end of the island and the sunsets are magnificant. It is built on the side of a cliff and the beautiful, turquoise Bermuda water is visible at every turn!! The ocean in Bermuda is amazing!! The colors of the water range from many shades of turquoise to dark blue and green. We took over 200 pictures, but non do it justice.
As I have already stated, the staff at this resort are so friendly and helpful. They make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive until you leave, when everyone is sorry to see you go. They will make any arrangments for sight seeing trips or excursions at the front desk and provide transportation to the bus stop near the resort. Upon return, you will be picked up at the entrance to the resort and transported back to the lobby. Your driver may even by Larry Lamb, the owner, as was the case the day we needed a ride. Larry had a leg problem when we were their and his leg was in a cast. That did not seem to slow him down and he could be seen working at the property everyday doing any number of jobs.
Our room was beautiful! We had a Deluxe second floor room in the Flying Fish building and the view from our balcony was incredible. We sat out there every morning and drank coffee as the Long Tails flew and made churping sounds. At night we went to sleep being serenaded by the tunes of tree frogs and the ocean lapping against the rocks below our balcony. I read some reviews prior to leaving about a musty smell in the room. We did not experience anything like that. The room was clean and well appointed and we found nothing offensive about it. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like logs.
The food in both restaurants were very good. We enjoyed Grill Night the most. Had a steak that was to die for!! Very tasty and done to your liking. The ribs melted in our mouths. Breakfast was your normal fare, eggs, pancakes, waffles, fruit, meat, potatoes. You could get eggs benedict if that is what you like. A couple of mornings they had a breakfast buffet set up with an omlet station and all of the above items.
The beach is small, but so is the resort and is adiquite for the number of guest their. We never found it crowded and always had plenty of towels, beach chairs, umberellas and noodles to go around. The water at the beach is incredible!!! Cristal clear with a white sand bottom. The resort beach is on a sand bar that extends out about 250 yards to a coral reef that is great for snorkeling. At low tide you can walk out to the reef in water that is waste deep at most. As previously stated, the colors in the water are unbelievable!! The water temps were 74 or 75 degrees and the air was warm, lower 80's with a beautiful breeze. Perfect for swimming and enjoying the many water sports available at the resort.
If you are looking for night life, well maybe you need to go somewhere else. Of course we did not come to Bermuda for the nightlife and the entertainment suited us just fine. We enjoyed the piano man that played two nights, but they roll in the side walk around 11:00 P.M. No casino or all night parties here. The Monday night rum swizzle party is a blast!! Your glass never gets empty and you to meet the guests, staff and managment while eating deliciuos hors'durves(spelling?) and drinking the national drink of Bermuda.
Speaking of the staff, I would like to mention a few by name: Mike, Ben, Sara, and Fanny at the front desk and bars; Art, Stanley, and Lynn the restaurant staff; TIm O'Neill the manager. All great people who make you feel welcome and relaxed. Thanks Sara for the Corona you brought me while I was swimming in the ocean and better luck with those Pittsburgh Penquins next year Mike!! These are just a few of the many staff members that made this trip truly memorable.
The island of Bermuda is magnificant!! We went to the Dockyards shopping and took the ferry to St. George. The houses are all pastel colors with white roofs. There is an abondance of vegitation on the island and flowers are everywhere. We were told that there are no wild animals that can hurt you on Bermuda and no snakes! This made my wife very happy. We also noticed that there were very few bugs. We did see some ants, but that was it. Being from Southern New Jersey, we are not used to sitting on the deck at dusk without swatting at mosquites!!
Well, I could go on forever about this beautiful island and wonderful resort, but I have things to do now that I am home. I would just like to thank Larry, Tim O'Neill, the manager, and their wonderful staff for making our vacation one of the most memorable and enjoyable times we can remember. Thanks guys and keep up the good work!!
