“2 week R&R .... excellente!”
My partner and I travelled with my parents and thus choosing a hotel which meets all of our requirements can be quite tricky!
As a group we've travelled extensively and have travelled to a number of destinations in the Caribbean, (Barbados, Mexico, Cuba, St Maarten, St Kitts etc...) we therefore had the view that if the resort / hotel could match or at least be on a par (i.e. value for money!) with the standards offered at these destinations we would be happy!
Having just returned from a 2 week holiday our thoughts are as below.....
The hotel has a very short transfer time from the airport, which is brilliant after a 8/9hour flight
All staff members are immaculately turned out, hardworking, helpful and friendly
Rooms - Cleaners,turn-down maids and maintenance guys (chain on toilet broke) were all prompt and ready to fix problems experienced in the room
Reception - Emmanuelle and Oscar were both very helpful in changing rooms, nothing wrong with the room allocated on arrival, just that we prefer to be on a higher floor (quieter etc) versus ground floor for 2 weeks
Entertainment team are all "excellente", the program offered by the team is full-on! Personally I don't quite know how they manage all of the activities, the activities are non-stop and all of the team spend time and energy in getting different people to participate, which I imagine can be just as demanding as running the activity!! Especially when they might be dealing with 3/4 different languages! All are talented individuals but thanks to Macarena for the towels and the morning cheery smile! and other team members for their energy and enthusiasm include Black Poin, Woody, Sony, Gasolina and Matilda. Special thanks to Red Bull for the pool game, Yuli for beach volleyball and Woody for the dance moves (what a mover! and general cheerfulness)
Wishing you all an "excellente Christmas"
I was hoping to have some morning / afternoon games of tennis, but the courts are a little out of the way and have a strange surface...!? If you decide to play afternoon tennis make sure you wear some mosquito repellent!
The evening entertainment included a nice mix of easy listening music, magic tricks, gymnastics and audience participation comedy fun (something to suit all nationalities!)
We also enjoyed the live band on the beach and the singers of an evening / grill day and the kebabs during the day!
The lobby bar / middle bar and waitresses were terrific and always very happy!
Beach waiters - Jesus and others all worked so hard on the beach and were very polite
Coffee shop - brilliant addition to the complex, coco boy plus others working in this area always friendly
The main buffet restaurant always offered a diverse / mix of meals and again the servers behind the counters and the waiters when asked were happy to suggest sauces / explain the dishes
The themed restaurants were also very good, you didn't have to book that morning and so it was great to have the flexibility and to be able to choose where you wanted to eat that night!
We had changeable weather, however this didn't dampen our holiday experience and in fact often stayed on the beach during the wind and rain which would usually last for 1 hour mid morning and much to our amusement often braved the weather out with the regulars on the beach ( We enjoyed our time on the beach with the guys from Munich and Frankfurt - Merry Christmas to you). When the sea was calm and the seaweed was non existent it was beautiful...
Hotel considerations - overall, areas of improvement would include opening another evening bar perhaps near the beach......? this would give guests the flexibility of drinking early PM at a different bar say for the hours of 6 - 8pm
Sign posts like accommodation blocks have but for the bars / towel area / watersports / tennis courts / volleyball / entertainment centre etc??
Invest in another Ping-Pong table? and upgrade tennis courts!?
Lobby bar got crowded of an evening and it would be nice if some of the guests could be respectful of surroundings and other guests!
Towels on beds - as the holiday season geared up... we noticed a lot of bed / towel reservations going on, it would be nice if the pool guys could reinforce the message or remove towels on beds pre breakfast...?
Casino a little bit out of the way and lacks theatre / excitement, little bit underwhelming
All in all a compact hotel, a few improvements required but good vale for money and the pros definitely out-weighed the cons!
Emma and Gavin have a fantastic Christmas,
Wishing the staff at Dreams Palm Beach an "excellente Christmas"
Feel free to email for info etc Julia
Block 8 high floor quiet, not much of a view but quiet!
