Stayed in a 2 bedroom condo apartment in April 2015.
Had a thoroughly enjoyable time staying at El Ta with my Wife and 2 children (aged 7 & 8). The staff were all very pleasant, the condo is superbly located - close to all the restaurants and shopping on 5th Avenue.
We stayed in a 2 bed penthhouse condo apartment - unit 357. We were concerned about the noise from the clubs that everyone seems to mention, but we were lucky - we could hear no noise whatsoever from either bedroom at night. Move to the living room and you could hear bassy noise slightly - but when in this room, we'd normally have the TV on so this wasn't an issue at all.
The other common complaint was the seaweed. Yes, its there in front of the hotel, but it wasn't an issue for us at all - 5 minutes across the beach and there is no seaweed. We only spent a couple of days on the beach anyway, as there is so much to see and do in Mexico.
Personally, I didn't enjoy the Indigo breakfast experience...so apart from the first morning, we ate every day at Imprevest, where the breakfast was superb and the staff were exceptional.
Some minor issues with el taj, which stop it from being absolutely top notch:
The towels feel a little cheap.
No towelling robes or slippers provided.
The toiletries provided weren't of a very good standard - chocolate soap? Eeuew.
No welcome pack - everything in the room is chargeable - apart from the sugar sachets (thanks!). Build it into the room cost, if necessary, but its nice to arrive and have some complimentary essentials - eg, bread, milk, tea, cereals, fruit.
The bedding could do with ironing! Not a huge deal - but I'd expect it in a high end condo.
We unfortunately got the feeling that we were being slightly conned with the cost of hiring a taxi driver for the day....we managwed to find an AMAZING driver who spent the day with us and took us to some extraordinary places for a fraction of the cost that was quoted by the concierge. His name was Miguel - taxi Number 853 - find him if you can! Also, when we asked to have the prearranged luxury driver to pick us up half an hour early on our final day, we were told they would have to charge us 40% of the cost - outrageous and completely unacceptable. They eventually waived the cost but this left a bad taste...
The pool - very nice, but no shallow end means that the children cannot go in there unaccompanied.
I thought having the hottub on a higher floor and having to leave the apartment to get there would be a problem - it wasn't really, but it would be nice for it to be on a terrace attached to the apartment. But it was lovely to use and well worth the extra cost.
I'd recommend El Taj, despite the above...
