My wife and I stayed here the 2nd week of January and we had a blast! The hotel was so quiet often times the staff outnumbered the guests. So the service was impeccable. They are good at taking care of the guests. When you arrive, you are greeted by 3 or 4 well dressed gentlemen and they assist you all the way through the check in process. In minutes you're in your room and you step out onto the balcony overlooking the pool and beach and you realize exactly why you chose ME Cabo.
The location is AMAZING. It's right on the beach and right where you want to be. Walk out to the beach turn right and there are 6 or 7 bar & restaurants all in a row. So if you want a beach party, this is the place! You can walk to downtown but for 60 pesos, you can grab a van taxi right out front. The walk can be a bit much if you've had a few cocktails or if your health prevents you from walking. It's about a half mile walk. Then, of course, you're walking all around the marina.
As far as the music goes it didn't bother us much. At the pool, they have an IPOD flowing with trance and body moving music until 1pm. Then the DJ starts. The night club everyone complains about only goes off Thursday through Saturday this time of year. We arrived on Saturday and yes the club was loud. But it didn't bother us. Mostly because we indulged in our favorite libations since this was our first night. We were a bit numb, if you will, when we fell asleep. And from Sunday through the following Thursday, when we left, the club never opened.
2 for 1 Happy Hour poolside everyday until 1pm. A great time to order a bucket of beers. Most of the bars, as you walk along the beach, have 2 for 1 during the day.
The food is good at the hotel. But you will pay resort prices. If you walk along the beach, you will find plenty of good restaurants with reasonable prices. The coolest bar is at Cabo Villas. It's called the Baja Cantina. It's right on the beach and instead of bar stools, you sit in a swing. You can sit in a swing and swig your favorite cocktail while watching the small waves lap the sand. At night, they surround you with tiki torches and the amazing aromas of their outdoor kitchen. They have an amazing steak and lobster dinner that you have to try. Also The Office is very cool. You sit on the sand and they serenade you with a live band and great food. Also, Mangos on the Beach is amazing. They have an MC all day and they give away free drinks all while getting people to do things they wouldn't do unless they were on vacation. Very funny contests like grabbing a couple walking by and telling them they get a free lunch if they jump into the ocean and switch bathing suits in 30 seconds. Only the bottoms people. And they tell them the whole bar gets a free shot if they do it and the next thing you know everyone is pumped and cheering them on. It is a lot of fun!! Stop by there for a beer. They have 2 for 1 all day.
The rooms were nice but nothing about them stands out. They're not too big. You get a king bed, a couch and a coffee table. There's a nice flat screen tv and a mini fridge to keep your beer cold. There are some basic utensils and that's about it. There are very few channels to choose from when you want to lay in bed and watch tv. But the movie channels don't work. For whatever reason they say they have movies available to rent but they didn't work. There were a few other things that didn't work either. Of the entire experience, the rooms are the only thing we could find that didn't meet our expectations. Bathrooms were marble and the shower was nice. Maid service was on time and thorough. Balcony had two chairs and was big enough to sit out on and enjoy room service. Again rooms were fine, just no wow factor to them.
And since I mentioned beer you should know that if you're not part of the timeshare program you aren't allowed to bring food or drink into your room. Friends of ours are part of Interval International so we got a week's stay for $800, a screaming deal. Otherwise we would've spent over $2000 for our same room. But by being connected to their timeshare program, they give certain benefits. Like being allowed to bring food into your room. Also, you get 10% off your room bill at the end of your stay. So if you charge your meals and poolside libations to your room, in the end they will discount your bill for you. It's not a big savings but $50 bucks off my $500 bill was nice. It's like a free lunch and with all the money I spent, a free lunch is a nice benefit. Also, the poolside cabanas are free as well. Most "regular" guests had to pay a cabana fee. We were allowed to sit wherever we wanted. And they have the most comfortable couch beds. The cabanas on the beach are great as well to people watch. The venders aren't allowed past the property line so they just sit there and offer their wares. Most of the time we just watched them, but we did purchase a few items as well. Also on Monday's, the have a timeshare guest only cocktail party with hor d'oeuvres and beer. Another small gift for those timeshare guests.
NOTE: And yes, you will be asked to participate in many timeshare presentations throughout your stay in Cabo. Not just here at the ME CABO. In fact, anywhere you go they are trying to sell you something. Just learn how to politely say no thank you and continue on your way. The Mexican people are very nice but they are trying to make a living and sometimes it can be annoying.
LOCATION: 5 stars - You truly can't beat the location
SERVICE: 5 stars - Empty hotel equals impeccable service
ROOM: 3.5 stars - Good enough
RESTAURANTS: 4 stars - Good food at resort prices. Save money, eat on the beach
COCKTAILS: 5 stars - Tip your bartender well early during your trip and introduce yourself. Call them by their name and they will remember you and treat you with generous pours!
CLIENTELE: 5 stars - By this I mean it's Adults Only. The clientele is hip, young and good looking. It's not a retiree's retreat. You won't find families here. If you want to mingle and meet people who are there to have a good time while eating well and indulging in top shelf libations then this is your place. If you're on a tight budget, if you want a peaceful and tranquil vacation then this isn't your hotel. I'm not talking toga parties but the clients like the hip vibe this hotel emanates and the staff work to give it to you.
It would have been an overall 5 star experience had the room been a bit nicer. However, we weren't in our room much. And for the price we paid, we don't have any complaints. To stay in the heart of Cabo. On THE best stretch of beach. To have the most comfortable poolside couch beds. And to completely let yourself go. ME CABO IS THE PLACE!
ENJOY! GO THERE! NOW!
