I was a bit skeptical about all the positive reviews SkinnyTato had received in its short 1-year life, but after trying it last night I realize that my skepticism was quite misplaced. The tasty and varied food and the warm, welcoming atmosphere are really as good as everyone on TripAdvisor (and Yelp) say. Go to SkinnyTato for a taste of ethnic -- in this case, Polish -- Europe. You won't be disappointed, even if you tend to be a more adventurous eater. There's really no need to argue with a restaurant whose food does actually taste like you were eating it at the home of a very good cook and very sweet Polish "matka" (mother). The menu is quite small, but with only a few different main courses and a variety of delectable salads and sides, this is delightful comfort food, with an emphasis on relatively healthy eating (vegans and those who prefer gluten or dairy-free meals will be satisfied, as will meat-eaters, especially if they like pork). The owners are kind (Catarina took our 15-month-old son for a little tour of the restaurant to give us time to enjoy our meals in peace) but also worldly. Be sure to try the vodka, cucumber and apple juice drink, the Polish beer, and the Hungarian goulash; the salads are a highlight, so order as many as possible. Overall, a highly enjoyable meal and evening.
