We were back at the Hilton in London, Ontario for another weekend in May 2012. We were at a dance competition being held in the hotel itself so it was the perfect spot for us to stay. We checked in at 11am and the very cheerful desk staff were able to find us a room right away. We parked in the outdoor hotel parking which was crowded due to contruction, so we were lucky to get a spot. More spots were available at the public lot across the street. The rooms are fine, ours included a fridge, very comfortable beds and a basic bathroom. The room smelled a bit musty but that was easy to fix by turning on the fan. We were close to the elevator and the ice machine on the 10th floor and we didn't hear any hallway or outside noise at all. The hallway walls and doors look a little tired but generally all very clean.
We used the pool and hot tubs which were nice and we enjoyed the fitness room as well which had some very new elliptical machines. I was given some excellent suggestions to jogging routes by the ever-cheerful front desk. We also used the restaurant on Friday for lunch and had a very reasonable and tasty buffet. Check out was simple, and to get out of the hotel parking lot, you slie your room key through the machine and you are on your way (is an extra $10 to leave your car)
We made lots of quick trips out of the hotel for food and coffees and found Crabby Joes had nice food and a nice patio, and Coffee Culture made great lattes. There is a Subway very close and Starbucks/McDonalds 2 blocks away.
Negatives for the hotel:
-Once again the hotel restaurant could not handle the crowd for dinner on Saturday night. We were trying to get take-out chicken fingers etc and it took 45 minutes, to get cold food. The crowd of people waiting for their measl around the bar were very angry and the staff were looking shocked. If we hadn't been so hungry, I would have asked to have the food warmed up, but we just took it and ran. recommend that you do not order take-out when the hotel is busy.
-The outdoor parking lot is a crime infested zone. For the second year someone's car was broken into. They have signs about this and they mean it! The hotel is in the wilder part of downtown London and there are lots of folks looking for handouts and being pretty sketchy on the streets at night, so be warned.
So overall, a great trip, with a reliable, comfortable hotel and I hope we get to come back next year to the London Hilton hotel.
