Rye is a gorgeous little ancient town straight from a fairy tale book. The Hope Anchor Hotel has the best location in town at the end of a most charming little street and with great panorama views of the surrounding landscape. We stayed there for five days to sample some of the great golf courses in southeastern England, but we also immensely enjoyed walking up and down those narrow little streets in wonderful Rye. A marvellous place!

Second time we have stayed at the Hope Anchor in Rye. The service at the hotel is excellent, as is the food. Hard to fault our stay with friends. The food in the restaurant isn't exactly cheap but it's great, especially for a special treat. The views of the river, marshes and castle in the distance is stunning. Perfect place for a short stay in the autumn and winter.

Great value for your money. The location is excellent. The cobblestone & small streets are quaint & memorable...though, in Rye, the cobblestones are more like just slippery stones. :-) Quite unique. We had the Castleview Room (though I was confirmed for the Captain's Cabin). It had a decent sized, very modern bathroom with tub. It was on the 2nd Floor (note, no lifts). The room was a nice size & overlooked surrounding houses. I didn't see any castle to view from the room, except for a structure across the street that looks like a part of a castle (but not so much). The room was a little warm for us & had to leave all windows open all night which was fine. All in all, very nice, clean, & comfortable room for the money (85 pounds) and perfect location. We would stay here again. By the way, parking was no problem. The hotel gave us a permit to park in the lot behind the hotel in the small circle. Tight (as in most placed in Europe) but plenty of spaces to choose from.

We considered the Mermaid Inn & Saltcote Place before deciding on Hope Anchor. Our 1st choice was Saltcote though it is just outside of town, but chose otherwise as it would have been over $300US per night...though they seem amazing! We walked by the Mermaid & kindof glad we chose otherwise too because it was VERY old...though it would be a nice place to eat as far as location. We had dinner at The Monestary Restaurant & it was very nice... comparable to London meals at fine restaurants.

Very comfortable stay-good view from our room. Bathroom well stocked with goodies. Food in the restaurant was lovely with plenty to choose from for carnivores and vegetarians. Stayed one night using the mid-week deal that included 3 course meal, wine bed and breakfast. this was really good value and on top of that we were given a free drink each inthe bar in order to make up for a double booking issue (double booking happened when telephone and Internet bookings were taken simultaneously). Staff were friendly and helpful.
All good :)

We stayed one night at the Hope Anchor during our honeymoon. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had to leave very early the next morning to catch a flight from nearby Lydd Airport and needed to leave long before breakfast time. We asked if a continental breakfast could be provided earlier and it was. The breakfast was excellent and we wished we had tried the dinner in the hotel the night before, but with only one night we wanted to venture out into beautiful Rye. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment, and our room was clearly recently redecorated to a very high standard.
We would definitely stay there again.
