Great value for your money. The location is excellent. The cobblestone & small streets are quaint & memorable...though, in Rye, the cobblestones are more like just slippery stones. :-) Quite unique. We had the Castleview Room (though I was confirmed for the Captain's Cabin). It had a decent sized, very modern bathroom with tub. It was on the 2nd Floor (note, no lifts). The room was a nice size & overlooked surrounding houses. I didn't see any castle to view from the room, except for a structure across the street that looks like a part of a castle (but not so much). The room was a little warm for us & had to leave all windows open all night which was fine. All in all, very nice, clean, & comfortable room for the money (85 pounds) and perfect location. We would stay here again. By the way, parking was no problem. The hotel gave us a permit to park in the lot behind the hotel in the small circle. Tight (as in most placed in Europe) but plenty of spaces to choose from.
We considered the Mermaid Inn & Saltcote Place before deciding on Hope Anchor. Our 1st choice was Saltcote though it is just outside of town, but chose otherwise as it would have been over $300US per night...though they seem amazing! We walked by the Mermaid & kindof glad we chose otherwise too because it was VERY old...though it would be a nice place to eat as far as location. We had dinner at The Monestary Restaurant & it was very nice... comparable to London meals at fine restaurants.
