Its a 2 star hotel so I didn't expect a lot and wasn't disappointed. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ok but let down by the breakfast staff who had no customer skills at all. The friendliest staff were reception. Car park was small as expected but we managed to find a space for our stay. If you are looking for luxery stay elsewhere.

Room tip: Ask for a room at the rear as the front is on a very busy main road

This hotel was the only one I could find in the town centre that offered twin beds. We had a large room with three single beds. The hotel is very tired, chipped paint, etc. Our room was on the third floor, (56 steps), the carpet could do with replacing, shower room needs a face lift, etc. However, the shower room was clean and the shower, whilst not of monsoon standard, was hot and had a reasonable flow. Beds and towels were clean and there were plenty of electric sockets - why do so many hotels seem unable to manage to have a socket for my hairdryer within reach of a mirror? A hairdryer is supplied but I prefer to use my own. Overall, the cheapest hotel in the town centre - I got what I paid for.

we checked in to be given keys to a separate building next door which on opening the door found a hostel style living room with smells of damp and old mismatched student furniture. Our room at the very top,was unbelievable in this day and age. Tatty dirty wallpaper, again mismatched furniture, stains on the bedding, cracks in all the walls and ceiling, a small disgusting kitchenette equipped with ancient cutlery, plates, glasses, microwave and kettle (not the normal tea and coffee making facilities). the sink in here screw covers missing and again the walls and ceiling were cracked and it smelt. the catches on the windows were also broken. The bathroom was something out of the seventies with no obscure glass so that the flats in the opposite houses had a great view to the toilet, bath and shower. What bathroom has carpet now.The shower was vile, old and dirty. The toilet roll holder was broken... what more can i say- oh and on opening an drawer we didn't find the usual bible but the Teachings of Buddha! I wouldn't house even students here and they wanted £95 a night for that- disgusting. when we complained the receptionist was most embarrassed and agreed and offered us 50% discount immediately but couldn't swap our room- so we left immediately. I wasn't going to spend 1 moment longer there- so disappointed and inexcusable.

Room tip: Go somewhere else

We arrived on a Friday evening to be told that they don't do evening meals! We were allocated a room at the very top of the building, an attic room which had "velux" type windows not much good for a fire escape. The bed was quite comfortable and beyond the bed was a little raised area with a rocking chair, an arm chair and two tables one of which held the makings for tea and coffee. The other table was dressed with a white towel topped with an empty ice cream tub this to catch the drips from a leaking roof vent. I could go on about the bar that sells only bottled beers etc but you get the picture! Don't go there!

Room tip: Find another hotel

Good points were comfy beds, cotton sheets, large towels, nicely cooked breakfasts and spacious rooms. Less impressive was the state of decor, esp bathrooms, but I knew that from the reviews. If I were the owners I would gradually install new white suites and repaint, also stop using cleaners that smell so strongly of disinfectant. It's a big place so I expect it will take time and a lot of money to reach a higher standard. Don't go here if you're a fusspot about the aesthetics, do go if you want good value for money. As single occupants of a double and triple room we were charged £56 a night which was better than most. If you want a quiet room, 51 on the third floor(no lifts) had double glazing and a cosy feel. The triples are very spacious.
