I stayed here for 4 nights as part of a large group. Lots of confusion when we first arrived with checking in... My room was originally their "Day Spa" room turned into a bedroom.... It was to the left of the entrance stairs so was very noisy. The room also had blue down lights in the room and a spotlight shining in window at night !! Not much sleep... The Positives::: The room was large and clean.. The Staff were very friendly and helpful... The cooked breakfast was lovely... It was only a 5 minute walk to the town centre, train station and supermarket.... Would I stay here again??? Probably not...

Thank you for taking time to review us, where ever possible we correct any issues.
The lights, of which you are speaking, have been programmed to switch off at midnight. We apologize for any inconvenience they may of caused you.
Why you were told the room was a previous day spa I don't know as it has never been. Our spa rooms are on a diffent floor and have all been refitted to extremely high standards. The issue has been brought up with our team.

We needed a bed for 1 night on Sunday as visiting relatives nearby. Booking online was straightforward and the receptionist on arrival was charming and very helpful. We were able to park on site although there is on road parking nearby 1 or 4 hour limited. Room was at the first floor front so some road noise but with double glazing not a problem and was large and with desk and chair and two arm chairs. Bed was firm but not uncomfortable. TV had channels BBC 1,2 ITV Ch4 and 5 . picture not great but OK and fixed to wall with no tilt. Shower was good with rain style and handheld shower heads. Fabulous large white bath towels.
Did not use restaurant as closed Sunday night or the bar. Did not use Wifi but was available free. Coffee/tea in room was good. Large built in wardrobe.Good value. Not particularly smart but acceptable We would stay there again.

Room tip: Rooms at the front are larger but there is a little road noise There are some smaller rooms at the rear which may be quieter.

Whilst the booking process and helpfulness of the staff before we arrived was great we were frankly nothing but disappointed on arrival. The room was incredibly basic, so much so that the toilet roll hadn't been replaced, the TV didn't work properly and neither did the shower. We had to run the the shower and the hot water tap for 5 minutes before anything hot came through and then when it did it was barely enough for two people. Breakfast was fine, even if it had a bit too much of a DIY feel to it. The staff were pleasant and helpful but for £80 for the night and an extra £9.95 per person for breakfast it wasn't good enough. If you just want the very basics there is a Travel Lodge just up the road.

We stayed at the hotel for one night as my son was getting married at High Rocks. Right from the helpful information given to us when asked if we could check in early (which we were able to) to the recently decorated room, the hotel and staff exceeded our expectations.

In early July I took a group of 48 people from southeast Queensland on a garden tour of southern England for 18 days. During our stay we spent 4 nights at the Smart & Simple Hotel in Tunbridge Wells and found the staff most welcoming and the rooms comfortable. Some rooms were enormous and others small but one expects that in an old building. Our booking was for dinner, bed and breakfast and we chose to dine in the garden courtyard area each night – a very nice relaxed area. The restaurant serves good plain food with large helpings and the service was excellent. I was aware that very few hotels in UK have air conditioning so this was not expected by our group. The only negative for a coach tour is that there is not adequate parking at the front for coaches to unload and this we found a difficulty on arrival as it took some time to book in and get to our rooms. A word of advice for a group would be to arrange porterage because there is only one small lift. This hotel was central for our group as we visited gardens in the Kent region during our stay. I would recommend it for its charm and the friendly staff.
