I was staying in Blackheath recently and found myself looking for a good pub lunch. I searched the Internet, where I came across The Villagers Inn website, which looked lovely and quaint, everything you'd expect from a country pub. I arrived at the pub about 12:45 and the place looked closed from the outside. All the curtains were closed, and the car park was empty. After entering the pub, I was amazed at how different the place looked from the photographs on their website, it was dark, dirty and I was the only person there at lunchtime on a Saturday. The bar looked empty, and almost every draught beer was off, so instead I ordered a coke. I was mortified when the barmaid pulled out a shop bought 2 litre bottle and simply poured it into a glass for me.
The dining facilities were terrible, tiny tables with plastic table mats and cheap plastic salt & pepper shakers you'd expect to find in a backstreet cafe or chippy. The dining chairs were made from some kind of basket weave with stainless steel legs, similar to garden furniture. I don't reccomend this place at all, I instead walked for a few minutes into Chilworth and enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Percy Arms.
