I stayed here on business, and would have enjoyed the place except for some minor irritations. In themselves they are small, but they did add up. I'll list them below.
- By default the staff direct you to a lift. I had to specifically ask where the stairs were. This is irritating, and implies that the Ramada makes the assumption that their guests are either lazy, or have a disability.
- The staircase is a closed area with no open windows for flies to get out from. The result was a lot of dead and dying flies on window ledges and stairs. The worst was the third (top) floor - see attached image for one small area below the light. Elsewhere on the stairs there are many smudges in the carpet which are obviously dead flies which have been trodden in. You get the feeling that the Ramada doesn't care about the stairs at all.
- There are Elemis toiletries in the room, which don't say that they aren't tested on animals. However I have just checked, and their website at http://www.elemis.com/OurStory/elemisphilosophy.aspx seems to imply that they are okay, so this is no longer a negative comment. It would be nice if the toiletries said that on the products themselves though, to set user's minds at ease - being cruelty-free is a selling point, after all.
- There were glass bottles of water and juice in the Executive room - but no indication of whether they get recycled if left in the room or not. I took the empties home with me for recycling, just in case.
- The Philips TV in the room had no power button, only a standby mode, which is notoriously wasteful of energy. I had to reach right round the back to the plug, which was fiddly, in order to turn it off properly. A poor choice of product.
- In the same way, the bathroom had a set of scales - but they didn't work. They were battery operated, and the battery was obviously flat. Why not just get mechanical ones and save energy? Again, a wasteful choice.
- There were minor stains on the bed cover (see image).
- Many people now avoid dairy products, but there was no dairy alternative at breakfast, nor available for the rooms. Since soya milk is a long-life product when refrigerated, there should have been some in the hotel.
By the way, the website says there is a 'spa pool'. However it is not a swimming pool, but a jacuzzi, so don't expect to swim any lengths! There is also a sauna and a small gym. All are unsupervised (not necessarily a negative point) - use your room card to get into the area.
