We chose this accommodation based on the positive reviews, website photos, price and location.
The free wifi and free parking were pluses, the breakfast staff were friendly and the food was good. Location was handy to laundromat and good restaurants, but we had to find these ourselves on the internet.
However, we were taken aback by the curt receptionist on arrival and by our room- a super king- which was up three flights of stairs and the size of a shoe box. It was incredibly hot and stuffy, the window only able to open a fraction. We had to attempt sleep with the fan on all night.
We booked a super king room thinking it would look something like the lovely room with bay window shown as an example on the website. No such luck! Ours was an attic room with sloping roof and two singles pushed together. It certainly wasn't worth the money we paid.
On bringing our concerns to the receptionists notice we were given a very blunt response. She basically said if you want a bigger room then pay the extra for it! No apologies for misrepresentation whatsoever. We have travelled widely and have never been treated so rudely. We were tired, so didn't pursue the matter any further, but were certainly not happy as we felt we had been deceived by the website photos.
The building itself is charming but inherits all of the problems that go with an old structure- creaky floorboards, rabbit warren layout, odd steps on the landings,no air conditioning , poor ventilation, musty smell in common drawing room, steep narrow stairs, dark small rooms.
This is not a hotel- private or otherwise- it is just a B&B minus the friendly and helpful hostess that B&Bs are usually renowned for. Looks much lighter, brighter and spacious in photos on the website than in reality, so beware! Cannot recommend. We could have stayed in a 4 star hotel with air con and elevator for the same price- oh! And with a friendly, helpful, receptionist who would upgrade without question if we mentioned we were not happy with our room!
