Just before I start on the review I must warn anyone considering this hotel ; if you are allocated a front facing room go out and buy ear plugs. The noise is horrendous, it goes on all night. Sirens, road noise and revellers. This was not the weekend this was a Monday. The Carlton has a great position handy for Princes Street and the Old Town. The check in is efficient and the room, although a little dated, was clean. The bed was comfortable and large but only one bedside lamp, why ??? There were a couple of sockets for charging up the phones, the wi fi although slow is free. The windows are the old sash type although the glass is double glazed. In the dining room there was food on the floor at our table and it took ages to clear tables after diners had left. The waiter brought the wine and left it on the table, did not even open the bottle, offer a taste or pour. The food was OK but nothing great. I got the feeling the waiters could do with some training, the Head Waiter ( if there was one) was not on top of things. Breakfast was standard buffet type, certainly not any better or worse than other hotels offering buffet breakfasts. Some items running out, had to ask for tea, although their seemed to be plenty servers. Why no Mushrooms ? I would not stay again as I could not take another night in a front facing room.
