We travelled as a family of 7 including 2 young grandkids, and our experience in the castle exceeded all of our expectations! This is a real castle, with the grandkids running around looking for leprechauns, Shrek and donkey (actually found 2 donkeys in the paddock - naming them Barbera and Betty!). The grounds and surrounding countryside are beautiful and peaceful, plenty of space to run around. Inside has been of course modernised to a comfortable old country homestead type feel, but you still know you are in an centuries old castle. The tight spiral stone staircase to the bedrooms and turret remind you every day (just need to watch the little kiddies on the stairs!). It was a treat every night relaxing in front of the fire after either cooking up a feast and eating at the castle or eating out in nearby Adare.
Mary needs special mention - she could not do enough to make our stay comfortable and easy, from a food welcome pack to get us through the first night, recommendations for day trips and local restaurants and pubs (including The Thatch Pub - well worth a visit!), to helping arrange a special family ceremony at the just as old Adare Parish Church. Thank you very much Mary - you do a marvelous job, the castle is very special, and our kids really want to return one day!

Beautiful Old World Castle in a Secluded Area close to Adare
Perfect setting in a beautiful part of Ireland. We were 7 adults, and the castle was perfect for us. Mary is the most responsive host we've ever rented from. AND the provisions she left for us were amazing. We needed nothing the next morning after arriving late. The kitchen was fully stocked for cooking elaborate meals (which we didn't do, as we asked Mary to recommend a chef one night and restaurants the other nights). If our travels ever take us to that part of Ireland again, we will stay at Fanningstown Castle.

Perfect stress-free wedding at the lovely Fanningstown Castle!
Mary was such a fabulous and generous host who couldn’t do enough for us, even doing some ironing for us the day of the wedding! Mary recommended a celebrant, caterers, a florist, a hairdresser, musicians and even a place to go horse riding locally, all of which were amazing. She cuts no corners and everything you can think of is provided, even the shoe polish that the groom forgot! I would recommended Fanningstown to anyone who wants an intimate, stress-free wedding in beautiful surroundings. The castle was just perfect for us. Thanks again Mary and family!

Authentic and Fabulous
We had originally booked to stay at the castle for Christmas 2020 but Covid 19 had other plans for us and the country. Mary Normoyle, the wonderful host, was very understanding and accommodating throughout this period and we stayed in touch with a view to organising a stay at a later date. Finally we, an extended family of 9 adults and 3 children under 2, realised our dream of a stay in ‘very own castle’ for a week in February 2022.
It was everything we hoped for and more. A beautiful arrangement of flowers in the hallway met us when we arrived. There were flowers in the kitchen, the sitting room and the library. The toiletries were copious and of five star rating. The kitchen was well stocked, with every utensil one could need. In addition, the fridge had tomorrow’s breakfast and plenty of it. The cupboards had other food and there was a bottle of red and white wine waiting to be enjoyed.
The furnishing in each room are beautiful, no expense is spared in making the stay as authentic and luxurious as possible. The fire in the sitting room is real treat and so cosy.
Mary and Dave, the owners, are warm, welcoming and very helpful. If you have the slightest query, they are on the end of the phone or with you in minutes if you need them to show you something. A visit is highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return at a future date.

Stunningly beautiful castle and grounds - Impeccable hosts - Fanningstown Castle is not to be missed!
This review is long overdue. Our family visited Fanningstowns Castle in October and it was nothing short of incredible. The castle and grounds are breathtaking – truly, one of a kind. The castle somehow manages to be spacious and maintain its old world charm while also feeling so comfortable and cozy. The pictures simply do not do it justice. The kitchen was large and included everything we might have needed and more. The dining room is stunning, as is the fire placed parlor. The bedrooms were all spacious and so very comfortable with high quality linens. Every inch of this home was impeccably clean.
I could go on and on about the castle itself, but the true stars were our hosts Mary and David. We met such wonderful people all over Ireland, but the hosts of this property are really magnificent. They could not have been more helpful throughout our stay and went above and beyond at every turn. We inquired about a possible taxi service that could accommodate our party of 8 – Mary immediately referred us to a great driver who took care of us for the duration of our stay. When a restaurant we were planning to dine at had to close last minute, Mary called in a favor and helped us with a reservation. She stocked the kitchen with breakfast items, coffee, and wine. Mary and David work incredibly hard to ensure their guests have the perfect visit, and we did. When we return to Ireland, Fanningstown Castle and Adare will certainly be on our list. I only wish I could rate more than 5 stars. Mary and David – we hope you see this and know how much we appreciate everything!!!

Fabulous family destination wedding in Irish castle
This place is outstanding for an intimate wedding or family vacation. We traveled here from the United States and stayed here all week for sightseeing prior to the wedding. First off, Adare Ireland is a beautiful Irish village with warm and friendly people. The castle is cozy and unique, but spacious, up to date with all the necessary conveniences. It is comfortable and lovely. It is situated in a scenic rural farming community about a 5 minute drive from town. Mary made sure every detail was perfect throughout our stay and went above and beyond on the wedding day itself. We especially appreciated the fresh fruit and breakfast items, the beautiful flowers in all the public rooms and the lovely tables and chairs provided and set up for us on the wedding day! They were gorgeous! She and her husband were available all week but were unobtrusive; really the perfect hosts. Wonderful experience!

Irish Wedding
There are not enough adjectives in the world to describe how amazing Mary and Dave at Fanningstown Castle are. When my husband and I decided to get married in Ireland, we didn’t exactly know what we were getting ourselves into. By google search we found Fanningstown Castle, and instantly fell in love. I wanted a specific date, and thankfully it was available, so we had 6 months to plan. Mary helped us with everything single step. She gave me multiple recommendations for local wedding vendors, restaurants, taxi services etc. and everyone we used was absolutely wonderful. Mary and Dave even helped setting up on the day of the wedding. I could not believe how beautiful our reception table looked when I walked in. The room was transformed in a matter of minutes! If you are looking for a small intimate place to stay and/or have your wedding, then look no further, Fanningstown is the best. Mary made wedding planning easy!
Even if you are not getting married, Fanningstown is such a beautiful and unique place to stay. With 5 rooms there was plenty of space for our group of 10 who stayed at the castle and party of 15 all together. We enjoyed Adare so much and we will definitely be back in the future!

Perfect house for a large family get together in a beautiful setting
Just returned from a fabulous holiday in Ireland. Brothers and sisters from South Africa, Canada, Florida and England met for a family get together. The castle was just perfect in every way. Adare is a lovely town with lots of history, restaurants, good pubs and the perfect centre for visiting the Wild Atlantic Coast. Mary Normoyle, the owner, went out of her way to ensure that we had everything we needed. The welcome pack of food and wine was the best I have every received especially the full Irish breakfast!
Mary even helped out organising a local B & B for a member of the family who was staying a little longer on his own. She then went the ‘extra mile’ by picking him up from the castle and taking him to the B & B - a door to door service.
