I'd been reading about Hotel Muguet, and really wanted to stay there, though it is often full. It is in the 7th arrondissement, in a quiet location. On our most recent trip, we spent four nights at the hotel. The rooms were small, as is typical in Paris unless you are a millionaire. But the arrangement of space and amenities were amazing. There was room to have a suitcase open, and an armoire that held the rest. The room was clean, and beautifully maintained. The beds had two pillows, and nice new linens. The shower had the typical French head but a lush rainshower as well, plenty of hot water, the shower didn't leak. (I've spent a fair amount of time in France, and this is not always the case!) There was soap and shampoo, both replenished often. The hairdryer was ingenious. It was in a table drawer in the bedroom, and was actually attached to the drawer, which no doubt saves them having to replace pilferage. But you could sit on the bed or stand to dry your hair because of the huge mirror over the table. Since we hauled all sorts of electronics, we had to unplug the clock/radio to charge them. However, the clock/radio had a battery, so it continued to be usable, even unplugged. The air-conditioning was wonderfully American cool, but without the clunk of the fan off and on that you get in most American hotels. Our room wasn't a view room, but we could see a big part of the Eiffel Tower, and went to sleep watching the hourly light show. The hotel staff was terrific, and helpful. They directed us to a good patisserie when we chose not to eat the breakfast (which looked sumptuous, but too much for us). And on checkout, the desk clerk said we'd had two breakfasts, which we hadn't, I had signed up for two coffees to go. She was courteous, checked her records, and chose to believe me, so we weren't charged for meals we didn't have. This is a really great place, and I can see why it is always booked. I hope it's available on our next trip.
