Casa del Aljarife is a terrific B&B unlike anywhere else you might stay...truly felt like a home with the lovely courtyard and spacious room (3# was ours). The views from our room were great, not only of the Alhambra, but the plaza and rooftops below. Quiet but for the sound of birds and a jazz/piano combo. practicing one afternoon across the rooftops. Christian was very warm and friendly, and had helpful maps of attractions made up. Some posters didn't like Christian, but I think you just have to adjust to all personalities and cultural differences when traveling and appreciate that uniqueness--it's part of the fun. He was great, and the Casa del Aljarife lovely. Be sure to just email him with your time of arrival and have him meet you at Plaza Nueva to get there...it's a bit hard to find initially, but then easy to get around once you know where you are.

  • Liked — uniqueness, courtyard, views
  • Disliked — initially hard to find, graffiti on streets

I agree with many of the postive reviews saying that this is a beautiful property but that's unfortunately the only thing I would agree with.

We booked two twin rooms with two bathrooms (only one with shower) and living room. On arrival we were so disappointed to find the second bathroom was only a toilet and basin. To compound our disappointment there was no second bedroom only two beds which pulled out of mock wardrobes in the living room. When you're sharing with three other girls clearly one shower is not enough. We had thought we could manage with one shower and a bath though!

What was most upsetting is that when we expressed (very politely) to Christian that the suite was not as he led us to believe he was at best unhelpful and at worst somewhat threatening in manner. I paid 84 euros for my ten minute stay with no acknowledgement of his misrepresentation other than to say, "I am German. English is not my native language!"

So my advice is to be very sure if you go here that you know exactly what you are booking, perhaps correspond in German so that you can be certain of no misunderstandings due to language! Furthermore, if you do feel on arrival you have been misled be sure to remember you will pay for it along with the sentiment "I think that is best!", when you tell Christian you think you are going to leave.

I left this B & B feeling tearful and shaky. Thank heavens the kind staff at the Melia Granada managed to fit us in which rescued our weekend meeting an old school friend we hadn't seen for many years! Granada is such a beautiful city with 'generally' hugely friendly inhabitants, a great place for weekend break.

A visit to Granada would not be complete without a stay at Casa del Aljarife. A delightful old Moorish abode in the atmospheric Albacin with romanic views of the amazing Alhambra. A real gem.

I found this hotel to have a very pretty room with a view of the alhambra and a clean large bathroom. The casa had a very spanish feel to it and was very comfortable. There was a nice courtyard and and free internet. They hotel is definitly a hike to get to, not for anyone who can not handle difficult walking. There is also several stairs inside the hotel. I thought this hotel was a good value. They did have a breakfast at and extra charge which I did not try. My experience with the owner was similar to the previous post. He helpful, but very abrupt and not overly welcoming unsure if any question we had was putting him out.

Lots of great things about this hotel. We had a spacious beautifully appointed room with amazing views of the Alhambra from our windows. The central courtyard would be lovely in warmer months. The price is great for such a large and lovely room. The breakfast was generous and fresh. A computer with free internet is available in the foyer.
It is located in an interesting area (the Albaicin) although hiking up and down steep cobbled streets does become tedious after a day of walking.
The owner is mostly friendly and an intriguing character but he can also be laughably bossy and abrupt. We became a little wary of him - one moment Mr Friendly and the next moment dismissive or grumpy, as if we had unknowingly offended him.
The main negative about this hotel is that no staff live on site. We arrived on the day we'd booked but found the front entrance locked. We eventually phoned the owner and waited outside in the cold with our luggage until he got there. Another booked hotel guest was locked out, with his luggage for several hours, unable to get hold of the owner on the phone.
So - it's a tricky thing: a great room at a very good price but the risk you'll have hassles about access.
