Sister Christina had given us explicit yet simple instructions on how to reach Villa Rosa. When we arrived off the 175 bus, we were given a wonderful welcome. Our rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable. Sister Christina was fabulous in that she was able to point us in the right direction when my travel companion expressed a wish to light a "real" candle, as we hadn't been able to in the Vatican. We visited the Church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, just behind the Pantheon, which has to be one of the most beautiful churches we'd visited. You can't miss it as it has Bernini's Elephant outside!! The bonus on visiting this church was that we got to see and touch Michelangelo's Christ Bearing the Cross. It is also a Dominican church, which made the visit even more special.
During our stay Sister Christina, her fellow nuns at the convent, and the staff were very friendly and always took time to talk to us.
If you do stay there and would like somewhere local to eat, try the resturant at the bottom of the hill, the Insalata Ricca, which is wonderful value for money.
Don't be afraid to use the bus system, it really is very simple, but download the bus map from http://www.atac.roma.it/index.asp?p=2 as it will help!!
