Just far enough off beaten track to be very peaceful. Do your homework and it's ok to find. Room a decent size and very clean. Window overlooking a courtyard, but not a great view - we didn't mind as out and about most of the time. Breakfast served in your room or outside in small courtyard which was very pleasant. Breakfast itself was nice, could have been more generous in content. Staff lovely and cheerful.

Only a few minutes walk from Piazzale Roma - and easy to get back onto main routes into the city.

Room tip: Entrance to hotel is up a flight of steps, so no rooms on ground floor.

Nice and quiet neighborhood. Steep steps to our rooms. Our single traveler's room was very tight - couldn't stand up in room - more like a cubby hole. Overall, good price and clean for Venice. Convenient location from Piazza Roma. Directions from hotel were very confusing. Map it out on your own. Would recommend it for short stays.

Room tip: Do not stay in single room if you don't like tight quarters.

My 4 friends and I planned a last minute trip to Venice while studying in Italy and found two rooms at the Locanda Gaffaro for a weekend trip. We were pleasantly surprised at how cute and cozy this hotel is, and after walking just a few blocks from the main station we were able to find it on a quiet street. The rooms were large, clean and had a small balcony which was great. The breakfast was quite good and in the patio which was lovely. For us students it was a great deal considering it was summer in Italy and although there is not much going on at night in Venice we had a great time at this hotel.

The evening of October 2nd we were wearing a little thin from traveling and had read into the directions to our hotel too much...fortunatly after a quick call to the hotel not only were we given clear directions in English but when we were too slow getting there our host came and found us! What service! Forget the GPS-use the instructions on the website and don't read into them too much. It is is just a 10 min walk from the train station, parking garage or the Varoratto P. d'Roma on the Isle of Durosodura. Clean, comfortable, quiet with A/C and free Internet (ask for the code). We were pleased with how close we were to trains, water taxis and a picture perfect 25 minute walk to St. Mark's. It was a bargin. Pack light-you don't want to be walking up and down the stairs of Venice's bridges with a heavy suitcase. Don't miss Murano! We would definitely go back to this hotel again!

we stayed here is August 2011. The hotel is located very close to the Plaza Roma and is an easy walk if you take the wooden bridge on the far end of the plaza. we reserved the family room and it was a decent size, the beds were comfortable. The big plus is we got the room with the balcony, it over looked a small canal. breakfast is served in an outside patio. The maid got to know us, so on day 2 she would come to our door at 8:15 with a tray of coffee & buns for breakfast which we ate on our deck. She refilled our coffee when asked etc. The location was quiet and it was great not having to pull our bags too far. in summary it was a great location with a clean comfortable room.
