This B&B lives up to its name. At least three of the rooms look directly on the Baptistery just west of the Duomo and you can see the Duomo by peeking out the window. The Baptistery was covered for renovation during our visit.
It’s about a 10-minute walk from the train station.
The office is not staffed 24/7, so you have to email them at least a day in advance to let them know when you are arriving for check-in. They ring you in the front door then you have to go up one flight of stairs. From there, you either have to go up three more flights or take a very tiny elevator that only fits 2-3 people.
Breakfast is served in your room. You fill out a form in the lobby the night before to tell them what time you want it and what hot drinks you want. We got two croissants each, biscotti, one pear, one kiwi, a glass of orange juice and a choice of a latte, tea or hot chocolate.
WiFi is included in the cost. But separate from that, we had to pay an extra 3 euro per person, per night in city taxes. To be fair, we can’t recall if that was mentioned at the time of booking.
You get a key to the front door of the building and the front door of the B&B. The key for the B&B door is tricky and sometimes you can’t make it work, so they give you a code for the keypad just in case.
Depending on your room you also get a key for your private bathroom. Read on for an explanation.
Because we had a side-trip planned, we stayed two nights in one room, left for a few days then came back and spent one night in another room.
Both rooms we stayed in were clean. The first room was larger. It had a fireplace which we presume did not work and was there for ambiance. There was A/C with remote control and a TV. Each side of the headrest included a personal reading light.
The bathroom situation was a little odd. It was described as separate but private. That means it’s outside the room, but it’s locked and we were the only ones with a key. So unless you’re really comfortable with everyone seeing you in a towel, you needed to change in the bathroom after a shower. The bathroom was small and didn’t have much room for toiletries. The shower wasn’t the cleanest and one of the doors was barely hanging on.
The second room (shown in photos) was an “upgrade” because someone cancelled. This one had the bathroom inside the room. The room itself was smaller than the first room, but the bathroom was larger and cleaner.
Because we had a few days in between stays, the staff was kind enough to hold some of our unneeded luggage. A nice touch on their part.
We did hear another customer yelling at the staff one morning, complaining about service but we don’t know the context. We were fairly satisfied with what we got.
