My husband and I spent 1 night in Pisa at the end of our 9 night visit to Italy - just enough to see the leaning tower and then jump on our plane (we had flown in to Venice, but left via Pisa).
We had a reservation at the Royal Victoria Hotel, but unfortunately that fell through (electrical problem in the room, apparently). They were kind enough to make us a reservation at nearby Leonardo Hotel instead. Just wanted to give you some background so you understand that this hotel was by no means our first choice.
Leonardo Hotel calls itself 3 stars but we didn't get that impression at all. There's nothing wrong with the place really, but there's nothing noteworthy about it either.
Our 3rd floor room was tiny. It did have a little balcony (too small for chairs even) that looked out onto a couple of rooftops... meh. The hotel is supposedly recently renovated but to us it felt pretty dated.
Breakfast was okay, nothing special but a decent offering.
A couple of pros: the shower was the biggest we had out of 5 different places in Italy (however, water temp fluctuated wildly and frequently); there is an elevator (which didn't matter much to us but might be important to others); and hotel is located within 5-10 minutes walking of the leaning tower and lots of restaurants.
If you are going in the very near future: there was a lot of construction/scaffolding around the hotel, and notes posted around the place on May 22 mentioned water outages to be expected on May 23 due to the construction. If you will be staying while this construction is going on, this is something you should know!
For 90 Euros per night, I feel we could have done much better (we were to have paid 100 Euros at Royal Victoria, which I believe was a much nicer hotel based on TA reviews).
