We went to Zermatt for a late skiing weekend and heard of the Albatros via the tourist office. It is excellent value and spotlessly clean. Rooms are large and the owners are very helpful. Although it is slightly out of the way this does mean that it is very peaceful at night. In any event, there is no ski ski out in Zermatt - anywhere. I would recommend this hotel to anyone

We were only able to spend one night in Zermatt, but we were fortunate to have chosen the Hotel Albatros. It was an amazing place to spend the night.
We called the night before our departure and they were able to accommodate the 3 of us without a problem. The hotel manager was wonderful, she gave us a choice of the types of room we could have, she showed us the a doubleroom and a single room next to each other, than she took us upstairs to view the suite. I have never been given a choice of a room before, so this was a wonderful suprise. We did choose the doubleroom and single room. Both the rooms were spacious and lovely.
The Hotel is located 10 min. walk from the train station, it is a easy walk. They also have a electric car that will come and pick you up. Since our train ride was 3.5 hours from the Halsiberg area, we chose to stretch our legs and walk to the hotel. It also gave of a chance to view Zermatt at a nice pace.
The hotel sits back from the main area of the village, it is very quiet, which is much appreciated, You can still hear the church bells in the morning.
Our rooms had a incredible view of the Matterhorn, so the morning sunrise was phenomenal. All the rooms have french doors that open onto a balcony with flowers, and lounge chairs, with a table, so you can sit out and enjoy the view with a glass of wine or whatever beverage you perfer.
The beds were wonderful, very comfortable, I loved the comforters, very warm and cozy. We had a TV in the room, a few English channels...BBC,CNN, but most of the channels were in German, as it should be.
Much to my suprise the hotel provided us with slippers and a very plush terrycloth robe, for use in the Wellness Center, or for whatever. They also have a safe in the room for valuables. Oh, and of course a hairdryer, which is a must for me. Bathrooms are so clean and will maintained, the showers are the best and the bathtub, although not built like ones here in the US is wonderful for soaking your tired body . I should also mention, they also provide Minibar, telephone, radio/alarm and WiFi.

Dinner is not served on the premises, but there are a incredible amount of resturants within wallking distance from the hotel. You will have no problems in chosing a good one. All the resturants usually display their menu with the prices, so you have an idea of what is being served and the cost.
Breakfast is served in the dining room downstairs 0730-1000, it is buffet style and of course you can order a warm dish, eggs with bacon, sausages, warm cereals. There is an array of breads, cheeses, cold cereal, juices, coffee, teas. You will not go hungry. We were fortunate enough to have our breakfast at a table that gave us a view of the Matterhorn. Life does not get any better than that.
Newspapers are in abundance, so if you want to stay in contact with world events it is at your disposal, but you are on holiday why worry about world events!
The hotel was a wonderful suprise for us, we have stayed in Zermatt last year, and we stayed with the Best Western, although the Best Westen was nice,, the Hotel Albatros was even better.
Cozy, friendly, and we will return....................... I should mention the cost. Doubleroom was 200 CHF/Single 140.00 CHF. These prices were quite reasonable for Zermatt. I also need to mention that the breakfast was inclusive with the room.

We stayed in this hotel during our honeymoon and we were there in the christmas period. The hotel is simply charming, very cosy and clean (which is very important to me). The room was of a good size for our tastes; you had place where to put the luggage and you still had enough space to go round the room without bumping in your things. Plus the room had also a sitting area which we found very convenient and the bathroom was also quite spacious (plus the underfloor heating was great - it was new us since we live in a place where we defintely do not need it). The only downside on our room was that we didn't have a clear view of the matterhorn since we were on the first floor.
The staff were very friendly and always helpful to answer any questions you might have. The breakfast was also very good - we didn't have any regrets with that. Another plus for this hotel was the way the room was prepared for you after you get back in the evening. The wrapped toblerone chocolates on the pillow were a simple thing but still they had an effect.
The location of the hotel was also satisfying for us - though it is not in the centre (you have about 10 mins walk), we appreciated this because it was the right distance away from bars so that it was very quiet at night.

  • Liked — The comfortable feeling
  • Disliked — It didn't serve dinner

Champagne with chocolate dipped strawberries upon arrival! Room with kingsize bed was nice. Bathroom decent size with heated floor. Maid service twice a day with a chocolate left every night. Great buffet breakfast with eggs, bacon, cereal, yogurt, breads, toast, juice, etc. Staff very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I have stayed here three times and are planning the fourth trip. The owner is the best. He really cares about your stay and making it the best. The hotel is a comfortable walk to all the great places to eat and drink, but far enough for you to sleep like a baby. If you are considering Zermatt for a vacation, GO! you will not be disappointed.
