At first we were hesitant about staying in Amsterdam and thought it would be too busy and too expensive. I'm SO glad that we stayed there and a major reason why is because of our wonderful stay in the Canal House Suite. Originally we thought we couldn't afford it, but because we planned to stay a full week they offered us a discount. My husband, 23 month old daughter and I had an unforgettable visit! We made some stupid mistakes upon our arrival and Paul rescued us, for which I'll always be grateful. He helped three very weary travels feel right at home. The view was unbelievable and the suite was SO comfortable. Sometimes it was tempting to just stay in! There was a playground right around the corner for our daughter and Vondelpark was less than a 5 minute walk away. The park turned out to be one of our favorite parts of the city, so I'm SO glad we were so near to it! Paul recommended terrific restaurants to us and much of what we needed was right in the neighborhood (internet cafe, restaurants, money machine, park, grocery stores). I hope we'll be lucky enough to come back and stay here once again someday. A wonderful staff also stopped by daily to tidy up and left us thoughtful treats:)

Was three of us last week in Amsterdam , my boyfriend and our friend, and we spent great time there, even wheather was bad ( cold and sometimes rainy ).To reach place is absolutely easy, from the airport to houise take you aprox.45 minutes all together ( train from airport 1 stop and 3 stopes by tram ).Accommodation was really nice, cozy, we loved our room.Complientary gin as well, and bird in front of house :-).Room was nice furnished, cozy, with radio and TV, very clean, breakfast nice and healthy, supermarket is 2 min. walk, neighbourhood is full of good restaurant with delicious food ( specialy Indonesian food ).Just in next house is nice coffee restaurant Gent , where you can start or finish your day.Very pleasant.Walk true Vondel park to the center ( park is just across the canal ) is something what we are looking forward each day.Host was very nice person, offering a lot of helpful informations.
I know that is not our last time at this place, for sure.I am looking forward for next staying. I really warmly recommend this place to everyone.

Recently stayed here with a friend, for a long weekend trip to Amsterdam. After finding hotels to have mixed reviews for not so good prices, we decided to check out B&Bs. This one had the best reviews and a great price.
Finding the B&B was easy, with tram directions from Central train station. Though, come to find out, there is a quicker way(next time!) Paul was very helpful and kind. He showed us our room, which had a private bathroom, kitchen and balcony(upon request). Everything was white and CLEAN. After giving us a handy map, that we used the entire time, Paul continued to show us around. Extra amenities, how to use the key, etc.
We were never bothered again. It was quiet, relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle with amazing local restaurants...far enough away from the tourists. Highly recommend Olive 63, a delicious Greek restaurant.

Every day returning after a long day, we would find our room what seemed to be cleaner. New towels, vacuumed, and sweet lil complimentary chocolates. A quick tram ride, or nice 15 minute walk to the center of the city, through Vondelpark, makes it a bit out of the center, but is totally worth it. I would highly recommend it. And if I ever return to Amsterdam, hope to stay here again.

We have traveled europe extensively and really enjoyed the Tulips B&B. Our room was very large (HUGE by european standards), the bathroom too (no extras so make sure to pack shampoo and other personal needs). Impeccably clean and well maintained. We met my in-laws in Amsterdam and shared the top floor. We were received by Paul who gave us a great map and a list of local (walking distance) restaurants, grocery, pharmacy, etc. He quickly answered all of our questions and we didn't see him again. Breakfast is cold cereal and milk which was fine for me, but my husband and in-laws are all lactose intolerant so we had to go out for breakfast anyway. I thought the value was lacking, but the in-laws wanted to stay outside the city, which ended up being a very good choice.

Pros - clean, large, bright room. personalized service at check-in, mini-fridge, location just outside busy city means quiet nights and mornings and pleasant walks, close to public transportation, very private
Cons - very private (if you're the kind who wants a chat and new friends), slightly high priced

I arrived at Paul and Karen's in mid-afternoon, thrilled to discover that the photos on the Web site perfectly represented the idyllic location on the canal. Better still, the photos did not do justice to the lovely interior of the apartment on the top floor (where we stayed).

Our hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming. Paul had prepared a great deal of information about getting around Amsterdam and the local area - this proved immensely helpful for our explorations.

The interior stairs are typical old-European (meaning narrow and small) but that's all a part of why we travel ... to experience life and living in other cultures! The apartment included a separate bedroom, modern bath, full kitchen (which was fabulous for eating dinners in after a day out on the town) with living room and French doors overlooking a garden. Honestly, the only thing that could have made the suite more perfect is a fireplace, but that would have just been added ambiance to a lovely escape and home-away-from-home in Amsterdam.

All of the staff were courteous and the rooms were nicely cleaned every day while we were out exploring.

If I ever have an opportunity to go back, I won't hesitate to book a room at Tulips!!
