The Amalia was perfectly situated near syntagma square, right across from the athens national gardens and a short walk to every major attraction. Much to our luck, the shuttle bus that dropped us in athens city centre from Patras (we took a ferry from Bari, Italy to Greece) dropped us off right across the street from this hotel!
The Amalia is unassuming from the outside, looking like a slightly run-down building. The inside, however, is stunning, with clean, modern decor and beautiful facilities. The front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming and, much to our surprise, they upgraded us for free from our standard room to a deluxe one with a gorgeous view overlooking the national gardens on account of us being on our honeymoon.
My husband and I easily walked to all attractions from the Amalia and even managed to march our large cases to the metro to catch a train to Piraeus for our cruise.
The breakfast was very good, set in a beautiful mezzanine dining room. The yogurt was delicious although I suspect the reason greek yogurt is so good is because it's rather high in fat. Delicious caloric, fatty goodness.
The hotel also had a computer with internet service in the lobby.
We would absolutely stay here again.
