Decision between the Phonecia and the Excelsior. From reviews on Tripadvisor chose the Excelsior, probably the right decision. Excelsior is in an excellent position, right over the water edge by the harbour, you can even swim from a small man made beach into the sea. We stayed on the Exec floor in a sea facing suite which had amazing views and a huge balcony. The Executive lounge was a bit of a joke, the staff were disinterested and the one hour for pre dinner drinks was very strictly adhered to. Sandwiches from the afternoon tea were still there with the pre dinner/drinks nibbles and also at midnight. We ate in the Admiral's landing restaurant, supposed to be a la carte. It was the worst and most expensive meal we had on the island, once again the staff couldn't give a fig, they were looking at some point above your head, utterly bored. There was one Frank Sinatra disc on that went on a loop 3 times while we were there. It isn't a 5 star hotel, they need to train the staff and deliver what they say they will, our room was left at 7.30 am and still not made up when we returned at 3.30pm. Turndown was a joke as they tried to do this at 5pm and if you sent them away they didn't come back. Positives are the views and position of the hotel and the other restaurants...More
