My wife and I arrived in Linz during the "Wein und Kunst" weekend of early Sept. 2004. Therefore, I had no choice but to pre-book a hotel and took a gamble with the Wolfinger.

It would not have been a gamble if I had used Tripadvisor prior to booking, as the reviews are bang-on. The hotel is magnificent: especially when one considers that it was formerly a convent.

The hotel is just off Linz's particularly lovely Hauptplatz and the beautifully decorated restaurant / breakfast room overlooks this. Our room was very large, and well-appointed. One trifling complaint, was the size of bathroom, but the luxury of a vast room offset this minor quibble.

We only stayed one night before venturing north-east into the gorgeous Mühlviertel, but will definitely return and stay in the near future as Linz is a fascinating place surrounded by stunning countryside.

I never write reviews but staying in the Wolfinger was really amazing. It used to be a convent so you get this authentic feel that you won't get at any other hotel in Linz. The bedroom room itself was on the smaller side but very charming and the bathroom was extremely clean with a very powerful shower. Although I didn't use the private sitting room it was quite impressive. Breakfast was substantial- I happened to sample a linzer torte at the Wolfinger that beat the one I tried at the cafe that is renowned for it. I wouldn't stay anywhere else if I went back to Linz.

This is just a terrific hotel. While taking the taxi from the train station, the driver told us that Linz had the most beautiful town square in Austria and he was right. Our room in the Wolfinger looked right over the square, and it was wonderful to watch the city activity from our window perch. The room was good size, although the bathroom was a bit small by American standards. The rooms are furnished with some great antiques, so you know right away this is an authenitic piece of Austria. Staff was very friendly, even smiling through our attempts to use our limited German. Breakfast is typical Austrian, lots of wonderful bread, cheeses, meats, etc. A great hotel in a wonderful town - we can hardly wait to go back!
