Well where do I start. We booked this hotel very last minute we payed £45 plus an extra £10 for a sea view. First impressions of this hotel were poor, there was a dirty little lady sat in the bar area watching a very old tv, and she didnt move for the whole weekend. We were checked in and given a key which had a key ring which was broken and grubby, we should have known from the key what was in store. The room was big that is the only positive, the room was so old fashioned it obviously had not been decorated for at least 20 years, there was a tiny portable tv, with only 4 channels. The wardrobes had seen better days and the vinyl covering was peeling off. The bathroom well I dont think I can call it a bathroom, it had a sliding door that would not shut, it had a toilet roll holder on the wall that had been moved, but instead of painting over the hole where it was located previously they had been left as it was. There was no shower which is ok, as we both enjoy baths, but when we tried to run a bath there was no water coming from the taps. On inspection of the bed, the sheets were very clean, but there was a grubby blanket on top, the bed was stained all around the base, and I darent check the mattress as I was too scared of what I might find.
There is one lift in this hotel, with buttons that dont work, the stairs were all higgeldy piggledy and were decorated with dead flowers, curtains hanging off the windows, wires hanging , this hotel is a fire waiting to happen.
The evening barman was a very rude man, when i asked him the nearest place to be able to go for a drink his reply was 'all of them' and not offering any advice on where to go,
Sea View - well we paid extra for this, and to be honest I wish we had not bothered, we also had a psycho seagull so couldnt keep the window open.
Breakfast - awful coffee, toast was plonked on our table and we were not given the option of brown or white bread and was cold. There was a selection of cereal and orange juice, the breakfast itself was not that bad, one rasher of bacon a skinny sausage, egg and fried bread and was at least edible.
The hotel had a musty smell and just wasnt clean what so ever, please dont stay there it has to be the worse place in the uk.
just stay away awful awful awful

I am sorry to hear we did not meet your expectations on this occasion.
The Salisbury is an old victorian building, with creaky floorboards, old furniture, many staircases, even sightings of a ghost!! and this i believe is part of its charm, which is appreciated by many previous guests.
We are not a modern travel lodge style hotel in any way.
regarding the points you raised, i wish to assure you our lift is in good working order and serviced by an outside company monthly.
Also we have an up- to- date full fire certificate, which is displayed in the hotel and again all our in -house requirements are met by our management team.
I am surpised to learn you had no water to bath, no reports were made conerning this at any time,
as we would have recorded such a matter and rectified it immediately.
Thank you again, although many guests have appreciated our hotel and return on a regular basis.
