I traveled to Koh Samui late Nov 2011. What i was looking for when i booked this trip was a hotel that would suit travelling with a 23 month old lively baby. Normally that would rule a lot of the 5 star hotels out, but what attracted me to the Banyan Tree was the private pool, big rooms and gorgeous settings. Allowed us a lot of privacy where we could be ourselves without worrying about disturbing other guests. I was not disappointed. Like a lot of other reviewers i have to agree that the pictures do not show how fantastic the rooms are. The rooms and the hotel are very nice and the views are Amazing (def worth spending the bit more for a Hillcrest view villa). However, what made the stay there special were the staff at the hotel. In my time i have stayed at various luxury hotels in various cities and i have received good service everywhere but none that was as personal or inviting as we received here. To put it in one line ' They simply cannot do enough for you'. Thais are well known for their love of children and the staff showed lots of care and attention to my little one....a def way to any mother's heart. They were always one step ahead of knowing what we wanted and being on the ready for it. Any thing we asked for was met with a smile. There were also lots of little touches which were nice; such as every evening we returned to the room to find a small keepsake gift and cakes being left on our beds. I always felt like a little child excited to see what we got today. We stayed there for 7 nights and we loved it. The only downsides if i have to add were that the Hotel is Huge, the only way of getting around is via the buggy so you cant just get up and go when you want. However, i have to add that the buggy service is very efficient and it is always outside your door within mins of calling for it. The other is that the location of the hotel is such that anywhere you wish to travel you have to call a cab. There is not much in walking distance. Again, the resort have thought this out by providing a hotel cab service which is not a lot more in price than the local taxi's. The above are the only downsides i can state and all in all they did not dampen our stay there. I would def recommend this hotel to everyone.

We stayed here for three nights during our honeymoon travels and only wished we had stayed here longer. The rooms are exquisitely decorated. We stayed in a grand garden pool villa right near the spa. The beauty is in the detail, there are so many surprises that you just need to discover for yourself. A few wonderful details that come to mind include the optional rain-like shower head that is almost a meter long; the yummy Pod coffee machine you can use in your villa; and the complementary aromatherapy lip balm in the included vanity kits. The service at this resort is like nothing else we have ever experienced. You have a villa host on speed dial – quite literally, we were given a mobile phone and only had to press ‘2’ to connect immediately to our villa host who could help us from anywhere in Samui. Pete printed an itinerary for our stay and even helped us book all our off-site activities. He seemed to know what we needed before we did. The staff are unbelievably polite and knowledgeable. The Sands restaurant manager knew who we were and our dietary requirements before we had even said hello. We were treated like royalty during the whole stay. There were so many personal touches including a gift in the form of a honeymoon cake at the end of our private dining on the beach. During another dining experience at the hotel a waitress disappeared to find me hair ties when she thought the wind may have been bothering my long hair during our meal!
One of the best things we did at the resort was book a private hour at the Rainforest hydrotherapy walk. So fun and relaxing. A really unique thing to do, I don’t know anywhere else you can do this. We also spent a full day in the spa. The quality of the services was very high and not so expensive when you compare it to prices back home. If you are looking for the stay of a life time, I think this is it. We will always remember our time here and hope to come back for each big anniversary!

Room tip: The villas are beautiful and very similar inside, so no need to stress over price options.

We arrive ard 10am and Breakfast was provided while waiting for the villa to be ready. We've book the garden pool villa and Was told that we were upgraded to seaview villa, with limited view. But on the map it's actually a garden pool villa.?? I wonder why. Not big problem. we love the privacy of our villa. In villa pool is 1.3m deep. Villa was great.

Kids club was excellent. Kids never want to leave. We left the kids there while we went to the spa.

Breakfast was ok. By the 5th day we are bored. I prefer the breakfast menu at Banyan tree Bali. If u have kids they do charge breakfast for the kids at 500b each per day for age 4 and above.

We had Dinner at sands one evening cos There was a Fireworks display. we missed the one on the 3rd night cos we were not inform. But manage to catch glimpse of it from our villa. The rest of the nights we head out to lamai beach for dinner. Taxi ride to lamai is at 290b per trip. Shuttle service to lamai and chaweng is provided but only once a day at 11am.

I think the hotel is quite petty. Having paying at tt rate. i suppose letting us having the kids bedroom slippers, they shldnt feel a pinch right? It used to be really generous. I remember my stay in other banyan tree resorts we were each given a toiletries bag,

hair dryer wasnt working properly but tt not a big issue.

Overall we enjoyed our stay there. Definitely will recommend to friends and stay again if we visit Samui again.

The biggest positive about the Banyan Tree is that the property is absolutely stunning. The views are incredible, the pools are incredible, the villas are incredible.

We visited the Banyan Tree Samui as part of our honeymoon in Thailand. We were upgraded upon arrival from a Hillside to a Spa villa. We really appreciated the upgrade as the view was wonderful.

On the downside, there was construction being performed on the villa directly to the left of ours. This made for some noise but it wasn't a big issue. Our hot tub also didn't work for the majority of our time there. The hotel though was very dilligent about having people out there to try and fix it. Finally on the last night, it worked! And we stayed in it pretty late that night!

We loved the interior of our villa - the living area, bedroom, bathroom, shower, pool were all great. The rose petal bath was very nice and we loved the view from the shower. Our villa host, Reyna was very nice and set up a honeymoon surprise for us when we checked in. The breakfast was really good and we loved the view from the restaurant.

We actually thought the buggies were kind of fun but we could see how not everyone would want to ride in them. They showed up so fast after calling for one. Although we had some near-collisions with other buggies.

The spa was also really nice. We booked it when they had a discount on a massage + rainforest experience. Without the discount we probably would not have enjoyed it as much as there are so many other spas on the island.

We thought the Banyan Tree was beautiful but it just didn't quite have the same feel as other resorts we had stayed at that really gave you a personal experience. Perhaps some of the staff didn't speak much English - or maybe they just did not want to talk to us (not sure!). But it didn't have a warm and inviting feel. We probably would have booked an on the beach dinner or something special but this wasn't really suggested or discussed. So, we were happy to leave the property and have dinner out most nights. We did go to lobster night at the hotel. The lobster was very good, but we were the only people in the restaurant. It was a little strange. For the price, we decided it was not worth another try and we ate out for the rest of our trip. Although we did have lunch down by the beach and this was really great. The drinks were all very good.

The service was always great. We would recommend this hotel but felt like something was missing.

Other resorts we stayed at while in Samui brought canapes every afternoon and were always surprising us with fresh fruit smoothies and different drinks throughout the day. This didn't really happen here at the Banyan Tree. There were cookies left in the room at turn down, though which were pretty good and little "gifts."

Overall it is probably the most beautiful resort in Samui. But there are certainly a lot of options in the area. We would go back.
