On the long drive from Melbourne to Sydney we stopped overnight at the Albury Manor House and were very glad that we did. The twin share room price was very reasonable and we found the facilities were of a much higher standard than this price range usually offers.
The hotel is centrally located off one of the main Albury bypass exits however, despite the proximity to the main roads, the building design and solid walls allows guests to get a quiet nights sleep (which can be quite rare in this busy town I've found).
The hotel is an older style, but well cared for, Tudor design that is that apparently undergoing renovation soon (there was some evidence of this in the back carpark but the interior of the hotel is immaculate) but dont let this put you off. We found the 'unrenovated' rooms to be extremely spacious and very clean. I rather liked the heavier English style furniture and the beds are comfy with crisp sheets. The rooms are airconditioned but the large windows are also able to be opened which is great for those travellers wanting some fresh air. The non smoking room that we requested was exactly that-in fact there was no odour of smoke anywhere in the hotel which was bliss for sensitive non smokers. I noticed that some rooms also had balconies.
There is a very pleasant indoor pool and spa area with complimentary towels. In house movies are offered free of charge.
One of the hotel highlights was the atmospheric restaurant which also offered room service. As we were tired from the drive we opted for the room service and our meal was excellent. I'm sure we would not have found better in town. I found the staff very conscientious and they contributed greatly to our pleasant stay.
If you are on a bit of a budget but still want a clean hotel with a good restaurant and a bit of old fashioned charm, give the Albury Manor House a try. We definitely will return on our next trip down the Hume.
