My boyfriend and I stayed here last week on a Sun and Mon night. We had high expectations, as you would when staying in a 5* hotel, we had a lovely stay but were not overly impressed with everything. Our room was clean, large and luxurious with a beautiful big bathroom with free standing bath and a huge shower. It was overlooking the car park though which was disappointing given the beautiful golf course views advertised. After having a drink and some pleasant food in the bar, which was lovely but definitely understaffed as service was very slow we ventured down to the spa to have a look. You need to walk through a long and freezing tunnel to get here and when we arrived we were greeted with a very unfriendly member of staff. She told us when we went to the desk that access was only granted to people with a spa appointment. We told her that we were guests of the hotel and we just wanted a quick look. After a loud sigh and a roll of the eyes she told us we could not go in dressed as we were. We asked her again could we have a peek at the facilities and after more eye rolling said she'd show us in a few minutes. We felt quite unwelcome at this stage so we went back to our room. We used the thermal suite the next day which is lovely, spacious with plenty to offer. However on checking out we were charged €40 each for the pleasure! We have never been charged for use of a thermal suite in a 5* hotel before, which is the whole appeal of going to such a resort. On checking in we had been told that this was included, it was no wonder it was empty on the 2 occasions we used this facility! What a waste of such a beautiful spa, and would certainly deter us from visiting again. I had wanted to book treatments and the spa was booked out on the 2 days we were there.
We ate in Sol Orien on the 1st night which was mediocre to say the least. Not 5* service or food. The meal in the Arlington on the 2nd night was absolutely fantastic, excellent service and food.
Breakfast is equally delicious and there is something on offer for all tastes. Overall this is a lovely hotel. however it lacks the wow factor you would expect from a 5* hotel. A bit more attention to detail and a look at access to the spa is most definitely needed here.
