This hotel is just perfect!
Beyond its aesthetic and impressive Japanese design, the hotel's maintain the highest standards in terms of cleanliness and service.
The food is delicious and very diverse.
And even the price is not that bad, especially considering this is one of the leading hotels of the world.

I was in Okura hotel in Amsterdam earlier this year, and it was perfect as well.

Just wonderful hotels!

I have picked this hotel for my long awaited getaway trip in early Oct because it is new and located right next to a BTS station. (Frankly, taking taxi in Bangkok did not give my good experience. Taxi drivers tend to reject "meter" very often based on my experience)
Being a regular traveller to Japan, I was so looking forward to my stay in this 5-star Japanese hotel brand.
My first impression with this hotel was not good at all. It took us 20 minutes to complete the check-in not because of the queue (we were the only group checking-in back there) but the incompetency of the staff. We were served by 4 different staff at the reception counter within that 20 mins and we were not explained the reasons for the extra-long time for the check-in. I suspected that the hotel had problems in dealing with last-min booking. And it should not be the case for japanese hotels, which are always systematic.
The hotel decor looks nice in every aspect (love the pool and gym, the cafe (for breakfast) makes you comfy). However, the room itself is overly subtle (the color choice is very mild and warm, but remind me of a very tranditional hotel in tokyo that i stayed before). In addition, I dont like the design the separate toilet and bathroom. Dont feel very relaxed when you have to do one of the most important "daily business" in that tiny air-tight toilet room.
Hotel guests are offered to pick international buffet or japanese bento breakfast, which is very common among 5-star hotels in Japan. However, the selection at international buffet did disappoint me. They dont even serve sausages for breakfast. Orange juice is not freshly squeezed (not even close to tropiciana).
Surprising, the hotel location is not as good as we expected. It is true that it is close to BTS but there is no restaurants, shopping malls, messages and spa nearby. If you prefer a relaxing walk to the hotel after dinner in Siam Paragon/Central World or drink in Asoke, the hotel may not fit in your need too.
Lastly, the hotel may consider to put the price list of the hotel spa in the room for benefit of guest reservation and its marketing purpose. (The hotel spa offers great promotion pack to guests for appointment before 5pm...but i was not lucky enough to experience it)
Finally, a few compliments to the hotel: 1) they served different types of fruits in the room during my 3-day stay; 2) There is a dean & deluca at the ground level of building complex; 3) helpful in granting late check-out (for one-hour).
Afterall, not sure this hotel is ready to climb up the ladder in such a competitve hotel industry of Bangkok. Certainly room for improvement.

Great location, very easy to use the Skytrain, just a couple of stops one way to Siam and the other direction to Emporium. So no more sitting in traffic! Great complex, Boots, Starbucks and an excellent restaurant Ugo. Erawan/Gaysorn close enough to walk to as is Paragon, Now the hotel - would stay again because of the above but it's new and the staff are trying their best but are not the quality of say The Sukhothai which is my normal hotel of choice, saying that we had a technical problem which was solved and they were helpful. But because of communicAtion problem between technical and housekeeping we did not get our room cleaned after the work. They have a nice bar which had a good jazz band playing and atmosphere was pleasant. Gym and pool good. Popped my head into the spa which looked excellent. It will be interesting to see if this hotel makes the grade in Bangkok and I think it will be more staff training which will elevate it into the league of Top 5. There are too many 5 star also ran hotels and I really hope this doesn't turn into one of them as I would like to keep returning.

Enjoyed a weekend stay recently when the hotel is quieter compared to weekdays when it seems to full of Japanese business people. The first thing that strikes the visitor is the attentive service from the moment one appears on the front steps. We found that this service standard was the norm throughout the hotel as one may expect from a high-end Japanese hotel but also with some friendliness that someone expects in Thailand. As the hotel is on a smaller scale from other 5-star, it manages to retain a better intimacy than others.

The decor can be described as refined Japanese elegance with an emphasis on darker tones and accented lighting. The lobby area on the 24th floor is quite unique with 2 long counters - 1 for check-in, the other the bar. Behind this area are doors leading to an outdoor balcony area (where you can smoke) with great view towards the Plaza Athanee and up Wireless Road toward the American ambassadors residence. There is another outdoor area at the front which is a great place to chill in the evening (accompanied by live Jazz trio).

The rooms are very well designed and appointed, again with Japanese touches such sliding partitions for the bathroom and the famous electric toilet which even includes a dryer! Everything worked and functioned as expected with an easy to use bedside digital master control.

The 25m infinity edge (salt water) pool, which is canterlevered off the side of the building is quite spectacular.

The buffet breakfast was comprehensive with high quality touches including Scottish highland water. Pastries and bakery were amongst the best in Bangkok. The crepe as one other reviewer mentioned is not recommended - soft and under-cooked (the only flaw at breakfast).

Great location connected to the BTS station and 2 stops from Siam. In the building basement is 7-11, Boots pharmacy and Dean & Deluca. Perhaps the downside is coming to this area by taxi as it suffers from bad traffic and can only be accessed from one side (coming from Sukhumvit Road).

Room tip: The views towards the American Embassy are nicer.

We have a total of 4 adults staying in 2 Deluxe Rooms of Okura Prestige Bangkok at the end of Sept 2012. It was such a memorable experience for us! The hotel staff were courteous and efficient. The hotel architecture was stunningly modern. The interior decor was cool and upscale. The location could not be more convenient! We love the afternoon-tea, the breakfast buffet (serving high-quality food) and of course the infinity pool! Though there were only 12 sun-decking seats available, we find it sufficient as the hotel was not too crowded. We also did not encounter guests speaking loudly or causing disturbances to other guests of the hotel. All in all, Okura Prestige Bangkok is a hidden gem in the heart of Bangkok! I'm sure I will return very soon! Will try the Spa next time for sure!
