The hotel was an old but classy place. The service everywhere (front desk, room, etc) was excellent. Everyonhe was helpful. The bedroom was spacious and clean. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful.
However, we found the lobby was dark and dingy. The exercise room was just OK.
The main problem we found here was the downtown location. There were few decent places to eat: lots of fast food but few places to dine. We tried to eat at the Italian place next door (La Picolo Italia)but they would not give us an English menue(we'd seen one earlier in the day) and refused to serve us when we said we didn't understand the Spanish. The waiter just walked away from us! We were stunned! When we walked out, no one seemed to care.
The area around the hotel looked decrepit and dirty - lots of graffiti. Not the kind of place you would want to walk around at night.
We had a frightening experience while we were having a light dinner in the lobby bar. There was a big commotion outside. Some hoodlums had run down the street, throwing rocks through windows. A big window plus the front door were broken. The management handled it well: a big gate went up immediately in front of the hotel but no one could go in or out for a while. It was quite scary!
Although we liked the hotel, we were sorry we hadn't stayed in one of the other areas.
