Basic accommodation but generally clean and OK. Don't bother paying for a Taj view. The view is good but not as good as the rooftop restaurant. If you're sensible you'll go to the Taj for 6am - so you won't see the view before as it'll be dark - and in the evening and/or lunch you'll be on the rooftop restaurant balcony where the view is not obstructed by the window.
Food is not the best we had in India but the location is great for the Taj. Near the shopping emporiums on Taj Road - ask to go to Mugal Bazaar and wander from there. There's one directly across the street that looks small from the outside but is an aladdin's cave inside. By asking for a shop directly you won't have to ask the hotel or the tuk-tuk driver and therefore save the commission.
Helpful staff, free wifi and computer use and though you have to check out by 10am, staff will watch your luggage until you need to go. Overall OK for the price.
