This was my first holiday abroad in a hotel (I had previously stayed in villas or apartments self catering with parents) and wasn't sure what to expect. I went with my boyfriend and his parents. The boat was a lovely way to start the holiday once in Croatia, it helped that the weather was stunning, even in September! On approach I was a bit concerned as the hotel kerb appearance seemed to resemble that of a prison. However as soon as we got a little closer that went away.
The grounds are gorgeous and although check in was slow because of the vast volume of people with us, the room didn't disappoint. They were a decent size and very pleasantly decorated. We were unfortunate enough to have no sea view, instead having other rooms opposite us and little sun. But you don't go on holiday to stare out a window, right? The food was immense, each night serving up something different. There were lots of different seafoods and meats if you were feeling adventurous, but good old favourites like chips and pizza every night if you like to play it safe.
Staff were competent, efficient and pleasant. Some people on here are saying they weren't friendly enough? Ok so they don't jump down your throat and ask you how your day was time and time again but they smile and say hello whilst collecting your plates, and that's enough! I found the staff very helpful at all times. My boyfriend fell mildly ill while we were there and they did not hesitate when I asked for another pillow for him, or if they could maybe leave tidying the room one morning as he was still in bed ill. The maid seemed genuinly concerned and piled me with fresh towels and soap to keep us going.
Entertainment was good on the island, we went down to the live entertainment area by the waterfront most nights, so you don't even need to venture onto the mainland. It's such a gorgeous setting with soothing music, candelit tables and yummy cocktails.
The boat did become a slight inconvenience as you had to timewatch a little as they only left Rovinj every hour, but if you planned your time it wasn't a problem. We just found ourselves running for it once!
The pool(s) were fabulous, well cleaned and of decent size. The other facilities such as table tennis and pool were good, and although I didn't venture in I heard the onsite spa was wonderful too. The grounds were gorgeous, we had a lovely walk around the island. Make sure you go up the tower, the views are actually breathtaking! Also hire a pedalo to get a different view of the islands. Being on an island you are so far away from everything, the peace is just fabulous.
My boyfriend was ill for most of the week which did mean we couldn't go out as much as we could, but it honestly didn't seem a problem when everything we could possibly need was on the island! Will definitely go back, and this time we'll hopefully both be healthy!
Ps- A little secret tip. Walk across to the adjoining island and hunt for the restuarant there. The best meal we had whilst on holiday was in that restuarant and barely anyone was there...a hidden gem!
Happy travelling!! xoxoxoxoxo
