We stayed here for 4 nights and very much enjoyed our stay, the hotel is situated just off the end of the lake has large rooms and as we had 2 sets of golf clubs plus cases this was especially welcome. We also had a balcony. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed exceptionally comfortable, pleasantly decorated a little dated but certainly not a problem. Internet access is via a pre paid card system which I believe is changing soon to free internet. There is a nice bar, swimming pool and up to date gym, the meals are buffet style a mix of European and local dishes not bad. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and have an excellent laundry service, we will be returning next year.
It is only a short enjoyable walk round the lake to the centre of town approx 10 mins. Advice do go round the top of the lake and down past the Temple of the Tooth, although it looks longer it is in fact considerably shorter with almost no traffic far better then taking the other direction. You can always take a Tuk Tuk if you wish
Tips, do visit the Temple of the Tooth, the old covered market and the new shopping arcade which you enter through a 1900 century preserved building, then step back in time by visiting the bar in the Queens Hotel.
If you are a golfer take a day out and play Victoria Golf course on the side of the Victoria Dam about 45mins drive from the hotel. It’s a really lovely interesting course, not as easy as it looks but well worth playing with great views of the surrounding area. Clubs can be hired, the caddies very helpful and all good players.
