The Ritz Carlton Pudong is the choice for luxury in Shanghai!

Many people were telling me it was important to stay on the Bund side of Shanghai but I liked the modern feel of Pudong. I considered both Hyatts but I decided on the Ritz Carlton b/c of the great buzz that was coming out about the property.

Location:
The Ritz Carlton is a minute away from the IFC mall which has all the best shopping the world. It also sits just under the Pearl Tower. The subway is very clean in Shanghai and fast. The hotel is about a 5 -10 minute walk to the subway which can get you anywhere from the Bund to deep into Nanjing RD in just a few minutes. Dont let the distance to the Bund side stop you from staying at this hotel!

Transfer/Hotel Facade/Lobby:
The airport is about 45-60 minutes away from the hotel depending on traffic. Maybe we arrived during heavy traffic. I booked the transfer through the hotel which was pretty expensive (850 RMB) but we did just get in from a 15 hour flight from NYC. I'll say this a lot in my reviews- if money is not a concern go for it. I took a regular taxi back to the airport on my departure and I think it was 90% cheaper. The hotel is located in a skyscraper and as we drove up there was a representative of the hotel waiting to escort us into the building's lobby and directly up to the hotel's lobby which is fifty+ floors above. As you step off the elevator there is such a stunning sense of new modern luxury. We were staying close to Xmas and there were a lot of people in the lobby but this didn't make any difference. After switching elevators in the lobby they took us directly to our room with no need to check in at the front desk.

Room:
We stayed in a Bund view Junior suite that was just extraordinary. The view was brilliant. We arrived at night and the Pearl Tower was lit up and its was crazy. There was a sitting room with and a large bedroom with a connecting bathroom. There's a sliding door between both rooms which works great when one person has jet lag. I cant describe the room in the right detail so just look at everyones photos. Everything was designed so perfectly with such attention to luxury/detail but you dont feel overwhelmed or that you're in some gilded cage. The bathroom is very large with a huge tub that is angled so you can bathe and look out at the view. The shower was incredible. The bed was very comfortable! All the extras like slippers, robes, water and toiletries were amazing.

Club Floor/Dining:
Again if money isnt a concern add the club floor onto the rate. We didnt book it in advance as we checked in we went for it. It was large, airy and the view as in all parts of the hotel was insane. The food was great with plenty offered at each presentation. We only really used it for breakfast and cocktails but they offer plenty more. We had room service a few times and the food was great. We also had cocktails at the lobby bar (same great view) There's also a bar/restaurant on the roof of the building which was packed. We just went to the terrace to check out the view.

Fitness Room/Spa:
There's a big indoor pool where you can swim with that amazing view. The fitness room was very large with a many treadmills, bikes, eliptical machines and everything you'd expect.

All in all the hotel was fantastic. Its very expensive but worth the money if you're looking for an incredible experience in Shanghai. Its funny that just as we were staying at the hotel Conde Nast Traveler ranked the hotel #1 on its Gold List. Its much deserved!

Room tip: Go for the club floor rather than paying for bkfst each morning. Its a little more each day but you get a lot out of it. Enjoy the views!!!

This Hotel is everything you would expect of the Ritz Carlton with attention to detail everywhere you look. We stayed two nights in a river view suite - the view was spectacular. The breakfast was probably the most expensive you could find in China ($45 per head) but it had everything anyone could possibly want for breakfast including a view of the Pearl Tower that literally screams at you as you walk in.
The rooms are fitted and furnished to a level you would only find in the worlds top hotels. The stand alone tub with its own TV and view of the Shanghai Skyline the highlights.
The Flair rooftop bar affords views you will not find anywhere else day or night.
Most importantly, the photos on the Ritz website do not lie. They are picture perfect and exactly what you get right down to the porters uniforms, the views from every window and the lavish fixtures in the rooms.
Stay more than one night.

The hotel is situated on a set of high floors with views over Shanghai. At breakfast, there is a view over the landmark Pearl TV Tower.
Rooms are built to a very high specification and decor, making a very pleasant atmosphere for a stay.
The spa bath is a real feature and a pleasant relaxation.
The building is shared with a wide variety of restaurants covering a very wide range of tastes and price ranges including some reasonable budget food as well as high range.
Conveniently, the Shanghai metro has a station in the basement of the building.
It was slightly inconvenient to take one lift to reception then another to the rooms, but this clearly makes good security sense,
Breakfast had an excellent selection of all sorts of cuisines, including excellent Dim Sum.
Were I to return I couldn't imagine finding better.

Located in the top section of a 60 story building in the heart of the Pudong area next to the famous Pearl Tower. The suite was fantastic with a bathroom that made you want to stay in all day. All lights and curtains in the room were electronically controlled, most for the bedside. There were 3 tvs in the suite, including the bathroom unit, which was located behind a mirrored wall in perfect position to view from the giant stand alon saoking tub.
Breakfast was good in Scena, but overpriced ($45). The best spot in the hotel is the Flair lounge on the top floor that features an outdoor deck facing the Pearl Tower. The food in the bar was delicious (try the satay) and the drinks were hand made with extra designer accents in all. The bar staff was just ok.

Room tip: Get a room facing the river or the Pearl Tower.
