Carol and visited this resort in Costa Rica (a no smoking country by the way) in late January.

The resort is exceptionally clean and well maintained, but dated.

The food is definitely influenced by local cuisine, on a daily basis you will experience rice, beans, vegetables with pork or chicken. The best meal of the day is breakfast where you can enjoy the buffet or have your eggs or omelletes to your personal perfection. The staff are very friendly but have a limited grasp of English.

A few points to be aware of:

1. The Rain Forest Tours are, quite honestly a waste of time. There are too many tourists in the parks which in turn forces the animals deeper into the bush. As a result you have a limited chance to see them.

2. There is a very large grocery store in downtown Jaco called Mas y Meno (more for less) where you can buy excellent coffee at extremely good prices. However, stay away from the tourist shops where they double the prices. Downtown Jaco is extremely commercialized, so be alert for 'originals'.

3. As mentioned earlier, Costa Rica is a non-smoking country. After a lengthy 5hr+ flight, picking up my baggage and going through customs (a smooth encounter) I went outside of the arrival lounge and lit up a smoke, only to be told by the 'puff police' to but out.

4. You are able to smoke at Morgans' Cove but only on the beach. However, the owner, Jimmy sits at the bar on a regular basis and smokes cigars, make sure you are nearby to light up.

Other than that, the resort is quite peaceful with the exception of the 'entertainment' on Friday and Saturday nights at the bar (a one man band who sings off key and plays a lousy guitar). Trust me, go to the beach and have a smoke!

Relax and enjoy all of the iguanas on the property along with the Red Tailed Macaws and the Bare Throated Tiger Heron.

This was our first visit to Costa Rica. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the country but were very disappointed with the commercialization.

Enjoy

Carol and derek

Room tip: Since the pool bar closes at 9:30 pm it's a good idea to get a room between #1 and 12. They surround the pool bar and is quiet in the evening. If you want fun go to the upper pool which closes at 11:00 pm.

We just spent two weeks at Morgans Cove and loved it. I was looking for something different from Mexico and Cuba and this was it!
The rooms were clean and everything we needed
I am a vegetarian so found the options limited at times, but my daughter is not a vegetarian and found the meals good. I did not ask for the chef to make accommodations for my diet but suspect they would have done so if I asked
The beach was great, the water was warm and the beach offered a short cut to town
The staff were awesome. Marco and Jose were very willing to help The owner Jim was at the bar every night and was open to helping customers. I mentioned there were tours that I would have liked to do but they were too far from Jaco to do. Jim offered to help me next time to make arrangement to see other areas then travel down to Morgans Cove - I will take advantage if this next time!
There were several tours that you could book from the hotel. We had both Michael and Juan who were so knowledgeable and took obvious pride in their country
This was one of the most relaxing vacations I have had. The weather was wonder.........see you soon

Room tip: The rooms away from the dining hall were very quiet

I liked this place. It's not overly fancy but has a good atmosphere. Rooms were decent even if everything wasn't working properly. The grounds are good with 2 clean pools and nice chairs. The beach is as others have described, rocky until you walk into the water a bit. Good for surfing. I thought the food was really good. The service as the pool bar was excellent and in particular, shout out to Jose and Alejandra. Carlos the guitar player was good fun early evening entertainment. Overall, I thought this place offered good value for what I paid which is why I am rating it 4 star.

I felt the urge to write a review about my experience lodging, and dining at Morgan's Cove after reading some of the other mixed reviews.
I had been there over 1 year ago and my friend 4 months.
Morgan's Cove and Black Beards restaurant is definitely an exceptional place.
My friend Peter and I stayed on the all inclusive with Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.
We talked with some of the staff and found out that they hired an new chef in December, we both agree this is the best restaurant change over ever.
The service here was exceptional, staff were extremely friendly and attentive to whatever we needed, we were well looked after.
The options at each meal were great! At dinner one night, pork chops, Chicken in a light salsa, fresh steamed vegtables and really nice salad bar with fruit!!
After pigging out on a little of everything, we both went back for seconds of our favorites. After finishing, we went to the pool side bar and met the owner (Jim)
In talking with him sitting at the bar after all the food he asked "How we liked the food and Did we try the desert"? And we told him that we didn't have room for it, I told him we
both loved it and went back for seconds on almost everything. Then we were given complementary (Not on the inclusive) drinks because we had no space for dessert. :) Awesome Nice guy!
If you're looking for a great place, friendly people, helpful staff, AND GREAT FOOD and a location that has surfing and, outings and activities, take my word for it!!!
10 out of 10. I would go back and I am already booked to do so in early March.

Room tip: The casino was a ton of fun! The beach is beautiful in the morning and at dusk. Surf lessons just before the beach and the teachers are awesome, fun, and very nice.
