We stayed one night at this hostel. We had a little trouble finding it, and based off of business cards and signs in the lobby, I think it used to be called The Prince Hotel. Maybe that would've helped us. If you take the bus/minivan for 60,000d per person, then you walk downhill past a big grassy square from where they drop you off. You go through one intersection with another street and see the hostel on the left. It's a little difficult to pick out and has Sapa Hostel on the window. We were given really crazy directions from the bus driver and walked uphill for a long while!
Our room was clean and large, with one of those strange windows that looks out into a hallway that you encounter in SE Asia. The people are friendly and helpful with okay English that's enough to get by on. We rented a motobike from them for only $6 USD for automatic, $5 for manual, and had a lot of fun riding around the mountains on our own.
My complaint is with the smokey smell in the room. The bathroom is open to the hallway and to another guest room's bathroom because of some high up wall cutouts. I think the guest next door was smoking, and the staff smoke downstairs in the lobby with friends, which traveled up to our room on the second floor. Also, it was pretty cold in March, but not too bad. Shower water is hot!
Okay place to stay for one night, but not any longer than that for me because of all the secondhand smoke.
