Despite some varied reviews, (good and not so good), we decided to stay one night at the Jonquil Motel this past weekend. What a disappointment. Perhaps the single rooms are better, not sure, but we were traveling with 2 1/2 year old twins and my mom and aunt, who are both seniors, so we needed a bit of extra space, and decided to go with the two bedroom 'suite'. The room was clean enough, but in very bad shape. The rooms were old, with little to no decor, with one little uncomfortable couch for two in the sitting area, plus two folding cane chairs for sitting. The walls are dirty, cracked and full of holes from old pictures that used to hang on the walls, but are now gone. The entire interior could use a good scrubbing to rid the spider webs and dust and then a good coat of paint to cover the mars, dents, multi-colored floor boards, holes and dinginess. Windows on one bedroom, that sits literally right on the main road, don't fit the windows, and leave large gaps on each side, the carpets are dirty and could use a deep cleaning. I know it's historic and older, but there's a difference between historic and just plain worn out. This particular room could be adorable, if just fixed up a little. The towels were nice and the clerk offered us plenty, but we didn't even want to bathe in the tiny, old shower. The bedding, while somewhat worn, was comfortable and seemed clean. Thank goodness for the feather duvets and warm blankets, because the room without the bathroom, was very, very cold, and it seemed the heat never reached us. The other room was apparently, very warm, almost too hot, for my mom and aunt, but we were told not to touch the thermostat, so we were afraid to adjust for fear of what might happen if we did. We also read that Breakfast coupons were offered to guests for breakfast, however when we asked, we were told they "were out of coupons." We were really looking forward to stepping back in time, and staying in a cute little motel back from day. We really wanted to have a good experience, but we're disappointed to say, The Jonquil really missed the mark for us.
