I spent a week at this unique resort in the Russian River area of Sonoma County. The "rooms" are actually more like one bedroom condos raised up high over covered parking, nestled amongst huge redwoods trees and a meandering creek. They feature high ceilings, full kitchens, decks to enjoy the views and soak in the lovely smells and sounds of the woods (at night the frogs and crickets create a sweet serenade), and a fireplace that sends warmth and flickering light into both the living room and the bedroom. Our room was immaculate and the staff went to great lengths to be helpful and welcoming. If you're headed to the river, I wholeheartedly recommend Creekside Inn.

Reserved and paid for 2-night stay in the Wicker Room. Our decision was made based on the glowing reviews on TripAdvisor which we used to trust.
The main house is very "quaint". The lobby is dark and musty. When we ascended the stairs to our room we noticed that the carpet was quite stained and discolored. Our room was NOT what was pictured on their web site. The room was a storage area of mismatched furniture. The sleeping area is crowded and claustrophobic. The bathroom did not look anything like the picture except for the skylight. The Wicker room is so very tired and worn. We peeked into some other rooms and they also shared the feeling of sleeping in an old cluttered attic.
We were offered a cottage at the other end of the property which we gratefully accepted. However we were not allowed breakfast as the cottage had a kitchen. We entered the Sparrow cottage which had a nice view of the meadow and mountains. The large picture window and balcony were a nice amenity. There was a strong odor of rancid bacon grease that permeated the whole cottage. We kept all the windows and doors open to try to alleviate the smell. We had a nice fireplace that needed a maintenance person to come and change batteries in the fireplace remote. It provided some nice warmth but only accentuated the rancid bacon smell. The real disaster came when we went to bed. The mattress folded straight down the middle. My wife and I were stuck in the center of the bed like it was a hammock. Neither of us slept much that night and got up feeling sore and exhausted in the morning. Getting a good night's sleep was the priority the next day so we checked out a day early. I explained this to the owner who stated that the mattress was new. I shared with her that she should inspect the mattress herself and request a refund or replacement of the "new" mattress. If the mattress was indeed new, she deserves a refund and so do we. She refused to give our remaining night's stay back to us. Shame on her.

Management response from Lynn Crescione, Owner
(Management representative)
28 Oct 2009
We would like to thank the reviewer for their review as we find all reviews to be helpful. As the reviewer covered a number of points we will address each one individually.

1) Cleanliness: Keeping our property clean is central to our ability to attract repeat guests. We have a multilevel approach:
a) There are written procedures for doing cleans and services in rooms.
b) When a guest departs the room is cleaned and then the head housekeeper inspects it.
c) Before the next guest checks in the innkeeper sets up the unit for their arrival and inspects it again.
d) As the owner, I inspect the rooms on a periodic basis.
e) We understand that cleanliness is an important part of the guest experience and award our housekeepers bonuses for rooms well cleaned.
f) Public areas are kept as clean as possible. We shampoo the carpets frequently, however, the hallway carpets serve 6 guestrooms and are, we admit, difficult to keep spotless due to the high volume of foot traffic.

2) Suites and Rooms in the Bed & Breakfast: We are a moderately priced B&B. We offer a good value with clean rooms and comfortable furniture. Much of our furniture is gently worn vintage pieces and as needed we replace items. Wicker Suite: Since the web photos were taken this suite has had the queen bed upgraded to a king bed and some of the wicker furniture replaced with mahogany furniture. Guests in the B&B are served a sit down breakfast each morning and have fresh coffee available at all times. (Note: these rooms do not have individual wet bars or kitchenettes)

3) Cottages: The unit this guest moved to was one of our new cottages (opened in 2008) and is a one bedroom unit with a full kitchen. The beds are extra thick plush top mattresses and although most of our guests love the beds, some folks like a firm, non plush mattress. We are able, if advised, to provide a firm, non plush bed. The cottages, having kitchens are provided with premium coffee and cream, but guests are not provided with breakfast.

4) Odors: As the cottages have kitchens, odors can linger upon occasion. Had this matter been brought to our attention at the time, we could have offered several solutions including moving to another cabin (if available).

5) Refunds: If a guest is unsatisfied with their accommodations and advises us upon check in that their room was not what they had expected we have two choices. We can move them to another room, cabin or suite that meets their needs, or they can check out with a full refund and we will try to find them accommodations nearby. If a guest moves to another room or cabin we adjust the price to reflect the price of that unit. If the cost is less, they receive a refund. If the cost is more, they are charged the additional amount. If the price that the guest had originally been quoted was part of a package or had minimum stay requirements, then they are charged for the portion used at the normal (not the discounted) price. In this situation, the guest was refunded the difference between the one night cost for the cabin occupied and the amount paid upon arrival.

We appreciate having the opportunity to address the concerns raised about our business and hope that we will have an opportunity to change their mind about our resort.

We can't say enough good things about this place. We stayed in the B&B,. which was very reasonably priced and included a delicious breakfast each morning at 9:30 a.m. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. They could charge considerably more for what you get.

The Creekside Inn is great value for money . We stayed in the Iron Room which was small, but clean and quiet with a good bed. The breakfast was beyond expectation. Wonderful croissants and muffins, good coffee, and a frittata served with melon and berries!

this hidden alcove is a family owned, environmentally aware, creekside "cabin" in the redwoods. interiors are very comfortable and appropriately decorated... perfect mix of rustic and modern. the staff is always pleasant, smiling and helpful! and the prices are comparable and affordable. i was leery when we were quoted such a low price over the phone, but when we pulled in to the quiet, forested, well-designed property, i was amazed! there's lots of small details that mean alot to us such as a recycle bin in the suite. the property seems as if it were created to be in harmony with the surroundings. i almost forgot to mention the "zen-like" balcony. if i were the yoga type, this would be the ideal setting. p.s. it's walking distance to one of the best restaurants in town- Boon food and drink
