We just got back from a three day stay at the Rodeway Inn in La Mesa. We were very nervous because we could not find any reviews on it. The hotel was in a central location which made it easy to get to the sights we wanted to see.
The front desk clerk (I did not get his name) was FABULOUS!!! He had an answer for every question we had about San Diego, and if he did not have the answer, he called his friends to find out!! He went above and beyond. I rarely find that kind of service these days! He went out of his way to find us a non-smoking room even though he initially thought there were only smoking rooms left.
The hotel is a little worn around the edges and the mattresses were a slight bit saggy for my poor, elderly back, and the carpet is threadbare in places, but it is overall a comfortable hotel, and it is very quiet. We never had a problem with noise.
We happened to hit a heatwave when we were there, but the air conditioner worked wonderfully. Although they served a continental breakfast, we opted to walk across the street to the Denny's every morning where we received excellent service, but that is a different story. I thought that this hotel was a little overpriced, but I would probably stay at it again because it is close to all the things we wanted to do. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the beaches, Balboa Park, and the Zoo. La Jolla was about 1/2 hour away. If you stay here, tell the front desk clerk we said thanks for the great service!!!
