My daughter and I decided to get away from Orange County to the heart of the Big City. I am a Hilton Honors member, and used my points to pay for the room. When I arrived, I could see that the hotel was a tall, narrow old brick building that had been tastefully renovated.
I had to wheedle the parking structure staff next door because they have a "no motorcyles" rule, but they gave in and found my a quiet dorner of the underground structure to tuck my bike into. They even showed me a "secret" always-open street door, so that I could access my motorcycle easily!
As other reviewers have commented, the doorman and staff were very pleasant and helpful upon my entering the Checkers. I got my key, peeked into the small lounge, and went up to my room number 410.
The room was a bit small, but I like cozy room sizes. There is a nice fridge, large LCD TV, king sized bed, armoire, desk, and ample lighting. I wasn't too worried about the details of the accomodations, as my daughter and I planned to eat out, do the town (on foot), and enjoy the Checker's rooftop pool and spa. By the way, to room was spotless and smelled very fresh.
We ate dinner that night at the Octopus Japanese Restaurant, right across the street from the hotel. It was pricey, but the service was very good and the food excellent.
After dinner, we returned to the Checkers, made drinks, and went up on the roof and jumped in the cool pool and luxuriated as we gazed at the tall buildings surrounding us. We also lazed in the clean spa. We stayed in the rooftop spa about an hour past its closing time, then security showed up and asked us very kindly to come back and enjoy the spa tomorrow.
Overall, our stay was very nice.
