Service lacks specialty hotel like this on for $400 a night. Platinum level does not even get breakfast. Bartender was texting most of the night. Had a good dinner but took a while and had to keep asking the bartender (female for service items), she liked her phone better than the customers. Front desk was not very polite for a platinum level compared to many others where I have stayed.

This hotel was nice and clean. The service was not over the top in any way. It is a long walk from the convention center as well as the Staple Center. I felt safe for the most park but streets were dark at night.

Some communication was lost with receipts that I required for business travel and took several people to accomodate my requests for receipts. Fitness area is very small rooms were also small. Room service was good !

I'm a big Hilton fan and also have a soft spot for older hotels, so I was hoping to be wowed by Hilton Checkers. Everything was OK, but nothing was special, which left me a bit underwhelmed. It is a smaller, older hotel, with some nice stonework, etc. My room was large, spacious and clean - which is priority one - so they met that important criteria. Also, on the positive side, while the bar is small, it is stylish and the bartenders were very welcoming. Additionally, the food was quite good and the location downtown is convenient. What was missing from the whole experience was the extra touches that can make an older hotel special. For example, there are doormen, but they only opened the door for me on the day I arrived. Every other time I exited or returned, they were hanging out talking to each other, indifferent to me arrival or departure. Yes, I can open a door for myself. But what's the point of having doormen who don't open the door for you or ask if you need a cab, directions, etc. - particularly in an older hotel with a small lobby - where a little extra attention would go a long way towards erasing any of the hotel's shortcomings. Overall, this is an OK place to stay downtown, but not as special as it could be.

I have stayed here 3 times as a Hilton elite. Great location in downtown. Corner rooms are AWESOME with great views, and relatively large marbled bathrooms with big windows. Complimentary continental breakfast for elites is a nice touch. The restaurant on the first floor is elegant and service is good, although seemingly understaffed at times. Hector did an amazing job and his service was on point -- despite being VERY busy.

My only gripe with the hotel is the inconsistency of the service. First stay in 2013 did NOT go well. The property chose to check guests in without informing them that the AC was down. This was late summer and very hot downtown. I did not get much sleep when I returned to the room late that evening. HHonors made things right by comp'ing the room and giving me 10K points. Second stay in 2014 was GREAT. Check in was friendly and I got upgraded to a corner room. Everything was flawless.

Most recently, the Checkers dropped the ball. I was checked in by a gentleman named Alex. He was not rude, but he was definitely not friendly. We all have bad days...but one bad day is enough to lose business. I was not offered the usual Diamond status check in which acknowledged my status, potential for upgrades, complimentary waters, nor did I have my breakfast coupons ready. I asked if any better rooms were available and flatly said, "No." I dare not sound entitled, but these are very basic things.

The next morning, Phillip made things right by providing me breakfast vouchers. He was very friendly and helpful despite the fact that the lobby was very busy with tourists checking out. Thank you, Phillip.

I like the Checkers and hope to stay again for the location, quality of the corner room and views, and the nice breakfast. I like Hilton and they have been very good to me so I hope this fluke was a localized event.

Room tip: Junior suite is not worth the money. Ask for a corner room instead.
