The GOOD - very friendly and helpful staff, i.e., front desk & maintenance
Manager's reception in afternoon - complimentary wine & cheese, sodas, cheese and crackers served in nice environment in attractive room off the lobby.
Beautiful setting among lots of trees and flowers; lemon grove across the street
Very clean & spacious suite
2 robes in the closet as well as iron and ironing board
Small refrigerator in suite; microwave available upon request
1 computer with internet connection in the lobby -- not sure about WiFi in the suites.
Convenient to downtown Santa Barbara
Also convenient to to nearby grocery stores and several restaurants including a Denny's... one DOES have to go on the other side of the Interstate but front desk staff will provide directions if you doesn't have access to a GPS system.
Front desk will provide a written history of the historic house on the property and will let guests visit the 1st floor if the house is not in use. It's used for various meetings and events.
The BAD - * air conditioning in 1st room assignment was broken could not be repaired without new part. Another guest had the same problem but their AC was able to be repaired. We were immediately offered new suite assignment on same floor -- we moved. Suite was still HOT although not as hot as 1st suite. We opened the windows at night only to discover there are no screens on the windows and we were on the first floor. (Felt a bit insecure sleeping at night)
Unsure WHY housekeeping had not noticed the problem and reported it to Maintenance or Front Desk before suite was assigned.
We left curtains & shutters closed during the day so room would not get hot as windows faced the west.... only to discover when we returned in the evening that Housekeeping had opened curtains and shutters... so suite was hot all over again.
* Housekeeping only left 1 washcloth & 1 handtowel on 2nd day. (perhaps the intent was to return with more later on in day.) Our request for more around 10 p.m. when we returned to the suite was responded to immediately.
Small closet and only one rack on which to place luggage.
We had initially requested on our reservation an upstairs suite overlooking the pool & garden area. However, we were assigned suite on 1st floor... in 1st bldg where many people walked by on their way to the breakfast area--- therefore, minimal privacy.
*Appearance of room is rather bland... mostly tan, beige and yellow tones. Stayed here 2 years ago, and there appears to have been no change in decor.
We've talked about whether or not we would stay here again upon a return to Santa Barbara. However, the bottom line is that we've found no 2 room suites in the area with comparable rates.
The owners of the property are to be commended for their preservation of the wonderful Historic House on the property as well as the outbuildings. Not many people go to the effort to restore and maintain historic properties. This definitely adds to the ambience of the setting.
Request a room on the upper level (2nd floor) with balcony overlooking the pool and garden area. Mi...
