We recently stayed at Heart of the Rockies Campground about 10 miles from Downtown Salida, CO. We are tent campers, but like the idea of water, hot showers and reservations during the holidays. We booked T17 - which was in the trees, with shade and by a running water irrigation ditch and plenty of parking with two cars, a raft with trailer. The people at the front desk were friendly and down home folks, hosting a campground BQ for July 4th- so cute... the bathrooms were fairly clean... very small showers, with plenty of hot water. The campground was quiet and had nice views. No bugs, fairly clean campsites. They also allowed dogs- with two Labs- this is good! It's the a cheaper price and better than the Arkansas Colorado State Park campsites ( Heart to the Rockies is 19.00 per night) Colorado State Parks charge 16.00 with no running water or real bathrooms, plus a user fee per person at 6.00 each- rip off on that end!
