We booked the Gold River Estate B & B because it was supposed to have 4 1/2 stars, offered gourmet breakfast and the location was spectacular. Unless we were in the wrong place - it was none of the above. To get house, we had to drive over a very narrow and unstable bridge - I was genuinely terrified the hired car would end up in the river!! The house looked reasonable but the gardens were most certainly "a work in progress" with buliding supplies and rubble everywhere. The inside of the house was certainly well furnished and the decor OK, but it had a distinct look of neglect - like it had not been used nor the furniture dusted and polished for some time. The guest room was large and well appointed, but agian looked like the last resident had just stepped out for a moment leaving their personal belongings behind - shampoo, body lotion and even a box of jewelry. In the morning, breakfast was just left out for us -l boxes of cereal, a small dish of fruit salad and a rather grubby pot of coffee. The toast was just left in the toaster - if there was a Chef on the premises, it must have been the name of the resident dog!! We met the owner briefly on arrival and the same in the morning - he probably said no more than 10 words and we never saw anyone else. A very strang eexperience.
